JUNE 2004
Work on rebuilding the GC&E started at the end of June 2004

06/27/04:  We finally found out the fence contractor was coming out this week so we rebuilt the border with the yard to the new size.  Then we started pulling out most of the oversize Albert Spruce trees and took out the buildings and track in Mt. Airy and Spruce.  After leveling ground again and recovering what ballast we could we began to relay the yard in Mt. Airy.  The new yard is three tracks wide with a fourth track that serves as a siding for the future sawmill.

06/30/04:  The new fence is up so construction can begin in earnest.  We continued the mainline and yard at Spruce west towards the tunnel at Laurel Bank.  The remainder of the turnouts for the yard were installed and the tunnel  was positioned and dug in.
