Western Maryland purchased 14 RS-3s between May 1953 and September 1954.  These engines were delivered in the steam era fireball scheme and eventualy all were repainted in the black and gold paint scheme no units were ever repainted to the red, white, and black scheme.  Four units had their short hood raised to house a steam generator.  Numbered 185 to 198 these engines were never renumbered by Chessie who retired them.
