Often refered to as the "Circus Scheme" WM's red, white and black paint scheme first appeared on it's third batch of SD-40s delivered in June 1969. 
Eventually Western Maryland repainted all its GP-7s, GP-35s, SD-35s, several GP-9s, F-7s and one FA-2 (the only Alco to wear this scheme) in 
addition to the GP-40s which were also delivered new in this scheme.

  GP-35 3578 heads an eastbound freight into the B&O yard at Cumberland. (5/15/83) 
 
WM GP-7 5633 (21) was stored at Cumberland, MD on 4/11/81.
WM 6413 (38) takes up the center 
of a trio of GP-9's heading the 
Empire State thru Salisbury Jct.
WM GP-40 3797 leads a freight thru Shippensburg, PA on the Lurgan 
  Line.  The GP-40s were some of the last units to wear WM colors (5/4/83) 
WM SD-35 7433 passes black andgold sister SD-40 7595 (7495) in the B&O yard at Cumberland, MD (9/27/80) 
WM 7546 (7446) heads thru theB&O 
yard at Cumberland, MD (4/11/81) 
WM 7458 (7448) is lit up under a set of flash units at Sandpatch, PA (4/11/81) 
WM 7549 (7449) tops the grade
at Lurgan with EC96 (8/13/81) 
WM 7549 (7449) rumbles past Q 
       tower and the helper yard at 
          Hyndman (8/15/83)
