I grew up along the Milwaukee Road mainline in a small town that was an important divison point on the railroad. I think that after traveling the world and the country in the course of my employment I once again find myself living in what was once a big milwaukee road town. Lacrosse, WI is along the Missisipi River and right now AMTRAK stops here.
The BNSF has a yard here still a remnant of the time when the CBandQ rolled through here and Candaian Pacific still has a small yard here. In the 1980's CP gained the route though here when the SOO Line bought the bankrupt Milwaukee Road. While I have seen railroads all over the country the railroads of this area of the midwest I know best.
