shay wheels are fabricated from 8" sch80 pipe, flat steel spokes and 2
3/16 cold roll hubs.
using the bridgeport shaping head to rough out the 1/4" keyways in
wheel hubs.
finishing wheel hub keyway with 1/4" broach. the nearly finished

uses a simple 1 piece spoke for the left side while the upper right
wheel has a 3/4" wide section
to bolt bevel gear to. the right wheels still need a 1/4" deep
recess turned for drive gear.
driven bevel gears are made from 1" plate, 1/4" plate and 5" pipe. top
left to right,
1x7.5x8" plate, center and outside cut on rotary table or lathe,
