The Hagerstown, Maryland roundhouse pictured at right is the largest steam-era railroad complex remaining in the United States. Members of the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum, Inc. have waged a tireless nine-year struggle to acquire the property from CSX Corporation and restore the roundhouse into a fully functional "living history" railroad museum. To make our vision a reality, we must raise $500,000 to cover the cost of environmental cleanup of the property.

So far we have received almost $100,000 in contributions and pledges. We wish to thank the many people who have generously contributed funds to this project. The success of this project still depends upon our financial well-being, and your continuing support is critical. At this point we are very close to accepting contributions via an SSL-encrypted secure page on this web site, however until that happens we urge you to send your contribution by mail.

Also, as a condition for transferring the property, CSX requires indemnification from legal responsibility for any future environmental problems that may arise. We are hopeful that an environmental study, conducted with part of a $200,000 grant made available under the Brownsfield Act, will clearly document the type and scope of all known environmental problems with the property, allowing us to move forward and resolve this aspect of the project.
