ACQUISITION UPDATE January 12, 1999

MEETING TO BE HELD JANUARY 14, 1999

HAGERSTOWN ROUNDHOUSE FACES DEMOLITION

What appears to be the last meeting between State and local politicians and CSX Real Property officials will happen on Thursday, January 14, 1999, in Annapolis, MD. The result of this meeting will seal the fate of the roundhouse and remaining structures - to return as a working, historic site, or to fade into memory.

If you are unable to be present in Annapolis at 8:00 a.m. in support of our cause, we urge you to contact our local politicians! Please tell them that you support the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum in their efforts to acquire the historic roundhouse and shops, and that you would like to see this issue resolved so that the complex will be preserved.

The scheduling of the meeting has not stopped demolition of the core buildings which the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum wish to save, however. Already, one of the buildings in the Roundhouse virtual tour has been demolished, and another one has been structurally weakened. Time is extremely short!

The Roundhouse Museum asks for the support of all the citizens of Maryland and the local tristate area in its negotiations with the State of Maryland. This is our last chance and we need your help to save this last remaining complete roundhouse and rail shop facility in America. We hope to see our State answer this urgent call for rescue.
