RRISIG News and Events
SIG Meet - April 5-8, 2000
Baltimore, Maryland
Industrial Gateway on the Chesapeake
Reservation Deadlines
The deadline for hotel and meet reservations is
02/18/2000
.
After this date we can make no refunds unless your space is
taken by a standby reservation.
Limited Tour Bus Capacity
Since we plan to use one 47-passenger tour bus,
47
is
the maximum number of attendees we can enroll
.
We have never reached this figure in the past
so we don't anticipate a problem, but in the unlikely event
the meet is oversubscribed, you will be notified and placed
on a waiting list. Currently we are not in a position to
accommodate "followers" in private vehicles for the Thursday
and Friday tours.
Registration Form
Hotel
Hotel and conference accommodations will be provided by the
Quality Inn and Suites - Laurel, Maryland
.
The room rate is $72/night plus tax, single or double. Make your own
reservations by calling (301) 725-8800. Specify the Railroad
Industries Special Interest Group.
If you encounter any
problems, ask for
Sheila Walker
.
(Do not call any 800 reservation number from the Internet or
elsewhere.)
The hotel has plenty of free parking if you are driving. It provides
a nice continental breakfast; there is a Denny's within a block, and
several coffee shops nearby. We will have eclusive use of a very
nice meeting and display room for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, so
it is important that as many attendees as possible stay at the hotel
since rooms are paying for our meeting space.
The Quality Inn is very convenient to I-95. There is a
MA

ail
C
ommuter (MARC) station around the
corner with regular access to Baltimore and Washington. The hotel
doesn't provide shuttle service to Baltimore-Washington International
Airport, and the rail line served by the MARC station at BWI is not
the one that runs through downtown Laurel, so if you plan to fly in,
check with the ground transportation desk at the airport for options.
The Quality Inn is actually located between the northbound and
southbound lanes of US-1. Main Street Laurel, located just to the
west of the hotel, has numerous shops and restaurants.
A major
model-railroad-only
hobby shop,
Peach Creek Shops
, is
located right next to the hotel. They stock a full line of
craftsman supplies and have a large display of contemporary and
vintage brass; the Cornerstone room contains all the Walthers kits
and the Walthers steel mill tableau. Peach Creek will be arranging
convenient hours for meet attendees and may even come up with a
surprise.
