CSX Defiance, OH
(Summary from the July 14, 2002 Cresent-News)
The eight-five year old Defiance, OH depot has seen many great years until now. With the last passenger train that stopped at Defiance in April 30, 1971, the depot served as a maintenance/storage facility for CSX and its predecessor (Chessie System) to the present. Currently, the depot is in disrepair due to a lack of maintenance and vandalism.
The Historic Homes of Defiance has shown interest in acquiring the Defiance depot from CSX for restoration. Unfortunately, CSX has not been cooperative in the attempt to aquire the depot. Kendal Carpenter, from CSX Real Property, has repeatedly denied or refused calls from Historic Homes of Defiance. This made the group turn to the City of Defiance for help.
The City of Defiance has contacted Mr. Carpenter about the depot. At the present time, the City of Defiance wants to work with CSX on preserving the depot, but may use code violations as leverage for action. This may present CSX with three options: bring the building up to code, tear it down, or convey it to the city or a third party.

CSX Toledo Subdivision CPL Dwarf Signal Theft
(From Trainorders - Webmaster)
CSX has experienced theft of atleast two CPL dwarf signals off the
Toledo Subdivision. One was stolen from the North End of the NW Wye which the AR
dispatcher had to talk the U-927 coal train by the missing signal this morning. The other
one was at the North end of Cario was reported missing last night (7/13) by K188 between
the time of 10 PM to 11 PM.
On a personal note, I hope we catch the bozo and burn him/her. Keep a sharp eye out.
Removing in-service signals are just as dangerous as stealing stop signs off of roads.
One additional note: CPL dwarfs disappeared last year around Illinois (check the Trainorders post archives). This may be the same
person that stole the CPL dwarfs on the Toledo Sub.
Anyone with information can contact the CSX PD at 419-661-3008 in Walbridge or call the CSX Police Communications Center at 800-232-0144
(Thanks DRF and Farmer from Trainorders)
