      Issue No. 32                                       JUNE

CSSQ MEMBERS ATTEND  NMRA's NIAGARA FRONTIER REGION CONVENTION AND WIN BIG!

S scalers came away from the spring convention of the NMRA's Niagara Frontier Region with a fistful of ribbons and awards. S'ers who grumble at the lack of attention the scale gets from other modelers record should consider getting active in their local NMRA chapters and showing models. The NMRA now has both appearance (voted on by convention attendees) as well as the better known judged categories. The appearance division is a great place to start for rookies in the NMRA.

This year S models came second (to HO of course) in terms of ribbons and awards but everyone that was entered was a winner.

Next year's convention is in London and the following year in Ottawa.  If you are interested in going, let the CSSQ know so we can hold an S scale get-together at some point and put some names to faces.

Paul Raham, Clark Kooning, Jim Gibbons and Alex Binkley had S models on display at the meeting.  Jim's scratchbuilt logging caboose RC #2 won the judged scratchbuilt caboose event. The plucky van  also won the vice president's award for the best scratchbuilt car and  the Fred Luff award for best scratchbuilt caboose. Well done Jim.

Paul was a big winner as well. In the scratchbuilt freight car division, he placed first with his Pullman drop bottom gondola, lettered for Moira Valley, and third for a 36'  truss rod boxcar MV #2247 . Paul also placed third in the steam kit division with his Baldwin

Alex won first in the appearance freelance freight car division with his SHS bulkhead flat decorated for the Canada Southern. His kitbashed 60 foot gondola (from a MTH car) placed third.

Clark won a first in the structures appearance division with his Siedel Welding Supply building. He also had a second in the prototype freight car appearance division with his Sn3 D&RGW gondola.

It was the first time either Paul or Alex had entered models at a NMRA meeting. As well Paul won the weekend switching contest and knows he will face a stiff challenge next year to defend his title.

Congratulations to all winners and hope this will encourage others to attend the London and Ottawa conventions to represent S scale in a great manner!                               df
