Jerry Poniatowski's AEM7

3_4_clo.jpg 3_4_far.jpg side_hi.jpg
side_lo.jpg truck.jpg I've always been a fan of electric's and when I saw the Atlas O version of the AEM7, I had to make one in S.  The shell is completely hand made from Evergreen and Plastruct shapes.  A special filler I made allowed me to construct the model completely out of styrene.  The frame is 1/8" thick brass that I cut out and soldered.  American Models supplied the motor and gear boxes.
The model features a complete and detailed interior with repainted AM figures at the controls.  A modified Lionel e unit allows operation either on AC or DC.  The trucks feature real non functional springs, and were fabricated out of styrene.  The wheels are custom turned in aluminum and measure 51" in S scale.  The lighting effect unit is from Richmond Controls and the module controls 12 lights that are directional and constant, including the roof strobes.  I made a separate circuit for the number boxes which also illuminates the cabs.

The roof details are all hand made from styrene, Microscreen or brass.  The pantographs are sprung and can conduct current from a catenary into the cab.  The doors are sprung and the shell is detailed with parts from Bills Train Shop and some HO parts.  The side mirrors and 46 grab irons are almost all different and are made of brass drilled into the shell.

The paint used is Floquil with Amtrak decals from Microscale in HO and O.
