Here's my story.

I received my first train set in 1953  at age 7, an American Flyer 5311T
(The Black Diamond). This lasted until I burned out the transformer and
the trains disappeared probably to the dump. In between trains I was
given an Erector set and played with this endlessly. I enjoyed building
and rebuilding all the items in the booklet.  In 1957 I got some Revell
HO and added to my empire with  many other train  kits and matchbox
toys.
I also received at Gilbert Physics set and Chemistry set. I guess my
parents wanted me to try all the various fields  to expand my
knowledge.
I enjoyed all these Gilbert toys and remember them fondly.

In my High School days interest in trains and other such things turned
to more important  projects such girls & cars etc. I sold my HO empire
1963 to by a CB set. I did a stint in the USAF and when was discharged I got
a job with phone company ( still with them 35 + years ).

My next AF train set came in 1989 when a childhood friend asked me if
I wanted his trains. I remember the great time I had with my first Flyer
set and also playing with his trains so  I said yes and it hasn't
stopped since. I guess I can blame my friend for the madness he rekindled in
me.
It has been rebirth of my childhood and one that I try to share with
two 6 1/2 year old grandson's, and I plan to include my one year
granddaughter as well.
