Our country needs Amtrak passenger trains today more than ever before.
Due to congestion, gridlock and higher fuel prices.
My open E-Mail letter to Sec Mineta 11/17/05.

Sec.Mineta said in New York City on Nov. 17,2005
"Passenger rail simply cannot compete with air travel in most markets in the United States.
The country is simply too large; our population centers are too distant.

"Unless you are taking the train for the experience of taking the train, you do not ride Amtrak from New York City to Los Angeles... or Denver... or  probably even Chicago.  Not when you can make the trip by air in hours, rather than days, and in most cases at a lower price.

Sec.Mineta,
Please never ever take for granted that long distance trains are NOT important for our country.

The United States of America is a big diverse country.   There are millions of reasons why Americans and visitors to our country like to use Amtrak  long distance trains.

You might want to lean a little closer for this next part -and I will tell you why.

Below are five major reasons why America should keep it's Amtrak long distance trains.
1. In the March 2001 Gallup Poll, it was again revealed that 20 % of Americans are still fearful to fly.

2. People who are physically challenged rely on Amtrak long distance trains to go from point to point  place to place.
If it was not for Amtrak long distance trains millions of  physically challenged American taxpayers would be shut in for life.

3. National Network long distance trains for National Security reasons.

4. By even thinking about abolishing long distance trains the government restricts all Americans freedom of travel choice by passenger rail.

5. Ask Rep. John Mica about the pull out of Greyhound bus from Palatka,Florida. If the National Network long distance trains die many smaller towns in the country lose all intercity public transportation and will also die.

As Sec. Transportation I assume you would understand the importance of all types of trains in the transportation mix.

Mr.Mineta stated "I believe very strongly that there is a viable future for passenger rail transportation in the United States.  But the future is not the 1950s model for passenger rail.

Sec.Mineta open your eyes, since the 1950's there have been many advancements in train systems and railroad technology.  They need to be applied to Amtrak.
It's the administrations and Congress boondoggle, Amtrak has no money to reform it's systems and operations.
A secure source of funding is needed to remove Amtrak from politics once and for all, after almost 35 years of debate and decay.

P.S.
I would like to see you Mr.Mineta be present in person for all future Amtrak reform board meetings.
After seeing your general counsel on TV I realize he can not speak for you.  Only you can speak for you!
I don't care want the law said about having a stand in Mr.Rosen is not the Sec. of  Transportation you are Mr. Mineta.
It's disgraseful that you never attended an Amtrak Reform Board meeting after 4 or 5 years in your position. You should set a good example by being on top your job like Mr.David Gunn was.

EVERYONE HAS TO SPEAK UP TO SAVE AMTRAK'S LONG DISTANCE TRAINS!
                                                         TRAINS DO NOT TALK!
If you like to add a comment or two just copy letter above open this link> dot.comments@ost.dot.gov and paste the letter into the E-mail box that opens up, add your name comments and send.  The letter will go to Sec.Mineta and President Bush. I am sure they both value your opinion:
