The building used to be the headquarters of TrainWeb.com and the warehouse for its online train themed party supply store, TrainParty.com. After the 2008 financial downturn terminated our plans to build a Disneyland-like railroad themed Silver Rails Resort, the owners of TrainWeb looked for an alternate purpose for the 40 acres of land that had been aquired for the theme park. The owners of TrainWeb decided to turn the land into a vineyard and the building into a winery and wine tasting room. That was probably not a wise decision as revenue was not growing fast enough to cover increasing costs. In 2024 the vineyard and winery venture was ended and the building was sold. The Silver Rails Winery continued to reflect TrainWeb's devotion to train enthusiasts with its railroad theme and a live video feed in the tasting room of trains through La Plata. The La Plata Amtrak Station and the Rail Lookout Cabin & Deck were within view of the winery. The BNSF mainline including the route of the Amtrak Southwest Chief were just a few feet from the winery and ran right between the winery building and the vineyards.
