Panhandle Northern Railroad
|
Based in the petroleum-rich Texas panhandle town of Borger (home of nation's largest inland petrochemical complex),
the Panhandle Northern operates 31 miles of trackage sold off by the Santa Fe in 1993. The PNR connects with
BNSF's Panhandle Subdivision at Panhandle and stretches north to Borger, where a Phillips
Petroleum refinery and two large carbon black plants provide the PNR with a steady volume of carload traffic.
The line is owned by Omnitrax. Motive power consists of ex-Santa Fe and ex-C&NW GP7s, as well as three
ex-SP SD9s. Power from other Omnitrax operations can occasionally be found on the line as well.
