Texas Rock Crusher - Brownwood, Texas |
---|
The Texas Rock Crusher began operations in March 1998 when it acquired 5.65 miles of trackage
on two former BNSF (ex-ATSF) industrial spurs in the central Texas town of Brownwood.
Texas Rock Crusher serves several customers on the Camp Bowie industrial spur, which branches
off the former Santa Fe main line west of the Brownwood yard and meanders through the southern
sections of town. Its other customer is the Vulcan limestone quarry, which is located on the
side of a hill on the west side of Brownwood, south of the BNSF Lampasas Subdivision main
line.
Texas Rock Crusher powers its trains with two ex-Red River Valley & Western CF7s, unit
numbers 305 and 307, and an ex-Texas, Gonzales & Northern SW10
# 97, a former UP unit. The CF7s normally work the limestone spur, while the SW10 works
the Camp Bowie spur. None of the units have been repainted. When not in use, the
locomotives can sometimes be found at BNSF's yard in Brownwood.
Texas Rock Crusher is a subsidiary of the TNW Corporation, which also owns the
Texas Gonzales & Northern Railway, the Texas Northwestern
Railway, and the Nebraska Northeastern Railway.
