SUNSET DEPOT PHOTOS
HISTORY
Twice listed on the National
Register of Historic Places, the Sunset Depot in San Antonio was dedicated
as "... a depot as handsome as can be found in the South..." with, possibly,
the exception of the KATY Depot in
the same city. The KATY is gone now, but the Sunset Depot here has been
serving train passengers since January 31, 1903.
The
Sunset Depot was completed in 1904 and established for passenger rail
service on Southern Pacific's "Sunset" route from Los Angeles
to New Orleans.
A
number of celebrities and famous persons either stopped here to visit
the city, or simply passed through, among these were presidents Franklin
Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge; and numerous Hollywood celebrities, including
Judy Garland.
