TGV Cab Views - South of Paris
TGV Cab Views - South of Paris
| | From the cab of a PSE trainset somewhere on the LGV Sud-Est high speed
line, Track 2, a spectacular view of a steep (3.5%) grade. On the LGV
Sud-Est there are speed restrictions in several places to limit braking
on the downhill side of a hill and reduce the discomfort
experienced by passengers when the train rapidly crests over a hill such
as this one. Photo by Yann Nottara (ynottara@mail.dotcom.fr) |

| | On the LGV Sud-Est near PK300, track 1 (heading south). Notice how steep
the track is compared to the substation at right. Gradient is approaching 35 in 1000.

On the LGV Rhône-Alpes line near PK410, track 2 (heading north).
We're about to pass through the Lyon Satolas airport station, which is
built across the tracks. The center tunnel is good for 270 km/h. Photo by Yann Nottara (ynottara@mail.dotcom.fr) |

The end of the LGV Rhône-Alpes line, PK495, track 1 (heading south),
near St-Marcel-les-Valence. The LGV Méditerranée was not
built at the time, but now continues straight under the overpass.

A rearward view from the cab of a doubled TGV Sud-Est, leaving the Avignon
station. Avignon is beyond the end of the LGV. Photo by Yann Nottara (ynottara@mail.dotcom.fr) |
| | Crossing another TGV PSE, doing 200 km/h through countryside of
Provence, somewhere between Tarascon and St-Martin de Crau. Note the
1500V DC catenary with its characteristic masts. September 1996. Photo by Yann Nottara (ynottara@mail.dotcom.fr) |
