All pictures displayed are video captures from actual program footage unless noted. Program 101 Galesburg, Illinois is a city rich in railroad history. Not only is Galesburg an important junction point for the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe railroads, it is also a busy Amtrak stop as well. To honor its heritage, the city celebrates Railroad Days every year. Railroad Days in Galesburg takes place every year during the month of June and draws many participants from railroad industry. This program, taped in 1995, highlights representatives from the Santa Fe and Burlington Northern railroads, Electro-Motive Division of General Motors, Valen Safety, and the St. Louis Steam Train Association. Special appearance by Frisco steam locomotive 1522. The Elmhurst, Illinois Hot Spot segment takes place in May 1995 on the last weekend of operation for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. The following Monday, the Northwestern disappeared into the Union Pacific Railroad by way of merger. Also included is a brief look at nearby Proviso Yard and the hump yard operations there. |

Up from St. Louis was Frisco steam locomotive #1522, a 4-8-2 that was pulled from the St. Louis Museum of Transportation and restored. Milwaukee Road #261 has been another frequent visitor to Galesburg for Railroad Days. |
