All pictures displayed are video captures from actual program footage unless noted. Program 129 With public education in mind, the Chicago Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society got together with the Friends of the 261 and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe to increase the general public's awareness of grade crossings. They decided to do it by running a live steam locomotive across a few of them. In this case, that steam locomotive was Milwaukee Road 261 pulling a string of historic passenger cars dubbed the Galesburg Safety Express. Every four years, the Railway Supply Association's Outdoor Expos give railroad executives get the chance to "kick the tires" on some of the latest high-tech offerings from all the major suppliers in the industry. At the Year 2000 event we concentrated on locomotives including Chicagoland's own EMD. |
