Union Pacific SD60M 6178 leads an eastbound freight over Altamont Pass Road and the abandoned Southern Pacific right-of-way over the famed Western Pacific grade (3/11/99).

We see the same bridge from the other end as Southern Pacific SD40T-2 8565 leads a westbound double-stack train over Altamont Pass. SP power used to run on the abandoned grade below the truss bridge (3/11/99).

Union Pacific SD60M 6178 leads empty container platforms east at the west end of Altamont Pass (3/11/99).

Altamont Commuter Express 3103 pushes an eastbound train over the bridge that signals the start of Altamont Pass. The train is on former Western Pacific rails and the abandoned grade is the SP (3/10/99).
