We continue our tour by heading up the Raton line to the town of Lamy, Amtrak's stop for the city of Santa Fe. Very liitle freight was observed on the line, but Amtrak's Southwest Chief covers it in daylight in both directions. We see Dash 9-P42B 84 at the Lamy station. (9/24/99)
TT3006
Ready to go south (railroad west), four Dash9-P42B's are ready to chase the setting sun out of Lamy. The track to the right is the former Santa Fe branch to the railroad's namesake city. Alas, the Santa Fe doesn't serve Santa Fe anymore. (9/24/99)
TT3007
The town of Lamy is not much more than the train station and a few houses. The westbound Southwest Chief passes Lamy's largest building, the church. (10/1/99)
TT3008
The Raton line is one of the last stronghold's of semaphore signals in the United States. Amtrak Dash 9-P42B 84 with the westbound Chief wraps around a semaphore at Chapelle as the Roadrailers of the eastbound Chief clear the main line. (9/24/99)
TT3009
Continuing west, BNSF starts to parallel I-40 and historic Route 66 west of Correo. We find BNSF Dash 9-44CW 4823 with an eastbound rolling under the cliffs at Mosita. (10/1/99)
TT3010
The previous day, a westbound train had five units in four different paint schemes as it passed through Mosita. (9/30/99)
