The Convention proved to be a celebration of New Haven heritage. Convention-goers attempt to photograph an FL9 owned by Connecticut Department of Transportation and painted in full McGinnis-era New Haven paint as it arrives at the Stamford station on July 13, 2000.

The Convention opened on July 11th with a trip over the Valley Railroad, with 2-8-2 No.40 dpoing the honors. Th excursion train performs a runby in the big field just north of the Essex, Connecticut, station.

After the runby the train continues north, exiting the town limit of Essex. The trackage is a former New Haven branch off the main line at Old Saybrook that originally ran to Hartford. The Valley Railroad operates as far north as Haddam.

Day Two of the Convention was hosted by the Naugatuck Railroad located just outside Waterbury, Connecticut. The Naugy boasts a fine collection of New England diesels. One of the locomotives in the collection is GP9 No.1732, lettered for the Naugy but painted in a Boston & Maine scheme. The Geep sits in Thomaston awaiting the arrival of the Convention train.

The Convention train had a pair of ConnDOT's New Haven FL9s leading the train from Stamford to the northern end of the Naugatuck at Torrington. Once on the Naugy, New Haven U25B No.2525 was added to the south end of the train to lead the return trip. The southbound excursion train passes over the face of the Thomaston Dam.
