One of the highlights of the trip was the passage through the Yakima Canyon between Ellensburg and Cle Elum on June 15, 1997. Looking down, we see the train at Wymer.

The Daylight was slowing for a photo runby at Dudley.

Following the runby, the train continued over the former Northern Pacific. You can see the abandoned bridge of the Milwaukee Road in the background.

TT1611

The train passed a BNSF freight led by GP39-2 2705 at Easton. From here, the train would leave civilization for the run over Stampede Pass.

TT1612

Returning to civilization, the train sprinted down the Washington coast for the return to Portland. It is seen here from the ferry slip at Steilacoom.
