1973 Tube Stock step needed to get out of the train as seen at Ruislip (Metropolitan Line). The platform here is higher than the floor of a tube train because the platform has to accommodate both tube and surface stock trains.  The platform height is at a compromise level half way between the two floor levels.  The difference between the two is about 30 cms or 1 foot.  This gives a 6 inch step up or down.
