ROAD TRIP
DAY 6
Day 6, Tuesday 09/12/00
Wake up call, 0530. Head out for some coffee and Helper Yard. Pull in behind the park and check out what is going on. Ah, nothing better that listening to the sweet sound of a yard full of EMD's idling away in the darkness of pre dawn.0614, the scanner goes off. AMTK #XX approaching Utah RY Junction. The #6 can not be that early. I wonder what is going on. The train pulls into the yard. Humm, those sure are funny looking cars. Aaah, AOE east bound.
0700 and nothing going on. No word from the "Z" or #6. Getting hungry out so head for Wellington for a B&G and back to the motel to check out. Needless to say, I missed both trains. Decided to head up to the Sunnyside Sub and look around and take some pictures.
Get to Schofield and head on up the south fork of Eccles Canyon to the top of the hill. They are doing road work on top so pulled a fast "U" turn and headed back down to the Skyline Mine.
Mine production is moved by both train and truck. The conveyer runs about two miles from the mine down the hill to storage silos and the loadout.
Headed south up to Clear Creek and took some pictures of the town. On the way back to the Sunnyside loadout I just had to get this one.
Back at the loadout I took a few pictures.
Time to head home to the chicken coop. It has been a long six days and getting tired out. I made it as far as the Valcam Loadout.
What do we have here?? It must by my lucky day. Three big A/C's with a string of MT's heading for Skyline. Fast "U" turn and back the hill.
It is kind of hard to get a good shot at the loadout. Not much room. As you notice, the loadout is on the road in the middle of a narrow canyon. Time to head home.
A little color at the upper end of Gllluly Loops.
A little color at thistle.
