The South
Shasta Railroad is
a work of artistic endevour. The Railmaster is 85 year old, Godfrey Humann, who lives in Tehama, California. Mr. Humann & his wife, worked for 48 years for more than 29,000 hours to build a model railroad layout in their basement. The layout is 60 feet by 30 feet, 4 levels deep. The layout is a scale model of what the old Southern Pacific looked like in the early 1940's, from Gerber to Dunsmuir, a distance of about 75 miles. His wife did all the electrical wiring, while he hand built all
the buildings, people, cars, trucks, railroad cars and even the railroad
engines. The layout was built 1/4 in. to the foot.
|
The Railroad Museum also has many other buildings. There are two buildings
with Antique wood burning and steam powered farm equipment, restored
by Mr. Humann.
