  • 12/16/1860 : Oregon Steam & Navigation Company is incorporated in Washington Territory.

  • 01/28/1862 : Washington Territory Charter is granted for the Walla Walla Railroad Company.

  • 03/10/1862 : St Paul & Pacific Railroad Company is incorporated.

  • 06/28/1862 : Great Northern's "W. M. Crooks" locomotive makes its maiden run .

  • 07/02/1864 : President Lincoln signs the charter for the Northern Pacific Railroad.

  • 09/01/1864 : Northern Pacific Railroad's first board of commissioners meet.

  • 12/07/1864 : Northern Pacific Railroad elects its first president Josiah Perham.

  • 03/23/1868 : The Walla Walla & Columbia River Railroad Company is incorporated in Washington Territory .
