  • 03/03/1970 : Spokane Portland & Seattle, Northern Pacific, Great Northern Railways along with the CB&Q Railroad
                            merge to form the Burlington Northern Railroad.

  • 12/06/1972 : Gold spike is driven to complete the 4,240 foot Latah Creek Railroad Bridge in Spokane, Washington.

  • 12/19/1977 : The Milwaukee Railroad has its third and final bankruptcy.

  • 10/06/1979 : Amtrak discontinues the North Coast Hiawatha passenger train service.
