THE MERCI CAR LIST.

Brief History:

The French 40 & 8 Merci boxcars were used during World War 1 to transport 40 soldiers or 8 horses or 8 mules throughout the European battle zones. In order to show their appreciation for the American support, after the war the people of France presented one car to each state, plus one car for Alaska and one for Hawaii (not yet states). This is a list of those known to still be in existence or whose demise is known.
