MP Cabooses Still in Active Service
on the Union Pacific and Other Roads

UPDATE 05.08

Former MP unit numbers provided by Roger Kirkpatrick and Jerry Michels.
Additional information from RRcaboose@yahoogroups.com & MOPAC@yahoogroups.com.
Trace Data obtained from
Union Pacific R.R. (Equipment Trace is now closed to the public)

  • Current Car Numbers are linked directly to the UPRR Public Trace.
  • Thumbnails take you to a recent image on this site.
  • "For Sale/UPRR Photo" takes you to the UPRR site with a listing of a specifc caboose for sale (UP switches the addresses often so this link sometimes becomes out-of-date).
  • Cars confirmed to be in the UP Yellow, MoW Green or MoW Orange paint scheme are in yellow, green or orange boxes respectively, otherwise they will be marked as MP Red.
  • Cars confirmed to be Off the UP Roster/For Sale are listed in chart #2.
  • Most Recently Updated Info is in BOLD Type.

Since the 7500 series are in MOW service the listed locations will change. All fourteen of these cars were modified into gang transports and supposedly painted in UP MoW Green, though quite a few have been confirmed as not having been repainted. Cars in "orange" from this series have not had their true color confirmed.

EV
EV Caboose with MP characteristics
Retracting a retraction - after inquiring, the caboose had been confirmed by the company as not having a MP heritage. It seems with a bit more digging it is indeed a former MoP after all.
The caboose is part of a 3-car group (boxcar, tank, caboose) used in training for the safe handling of hazardous chemicals. The outfit is sponsored by DuPont.
Seen at Lincoln, NE at Lincoln Station, on the BN.

SOLD to Willamatte & Pacific
Caboose #1, ex-MoPac, is on our Corvallis Local and you'll find it in or near Corvallis except when it comes in to Ablany for servicing, usually every other weekend.  Weekends and evenings, it is parked on 6th St, near Western Blvd. (L. K. Thelen)
Seen at Union Station in Portland, Oregon in 1997.
