Started in late 2000, it was suppose to be a father- son project, but quickly became a son project. I worked steadily on it until it was all covered in plaster cloth. It was then that the bulk of the layout was done.
It remained largely unchanged until 2003 when I decided to make a siding in the middle of the layout where I had decided to put the station and a whole new track which ran around the outside of the entire layout with a tunnel through the mountain.
In 2005 is where the construction of the layout has continued on more aggressively since 2000. I added an extra siding along the back end of the layout which ended my problem of an empty unused space, in addition to a new siding to a lumber mill, an interchange between the "outer ring" with the "inner ring" and an extra stub end siding in front of the station, along with the painting and "decorating" it with fake turf.
This is what my layout looked like earlier this year after I added the siding at the back of my layout
My layout is in its ugly stages, part white, part paint, part fake turf and a bunch of stuff on top to help me finish it. But its all starting to come together. This picture taken December 5, 2005
This is my little control board, looking unprofessional, yet organized, it's what lurks under the layout itself that is absolutely horrifying. The mangled mess of wires, I honestly have no idea how I did it before! But that is in the process of being fixed.
As of January 1, 2006 I have fixed the mangle mess and have taped all the wires to the underside of the board, even thought there are still a few loosely hanging wires. These are all to be done up in the next few weeks.
On January 1, 2006 I finally put an end to the "plaster clothing" on my layout. On December 27, 2005 I aquired new building for the layout. Originally, suppose to be a printing mill, it came with no stickers so it can virtually become type of industry. I tried placing it at the station yard, but it was to big (the base that it sits on). I tried placing it across the tracks from where it sits now but that was to small. I then decided to cut out a small chunk of the already exsisting layout. I put a foot long piece of a 1 inch riser (from Woodland Scenics) glued it into place and then when it was all dry, covered it in plaster. The riser sticks out about an half an inch over the side of the board and the building about another half inch. It sounds like a lot but and may look sort of unsightly but I don't mind one bit! It is located at the far left side of the layout where it is on the outside part of the "staging yards" are. All that is left is to paint it up!
