GG20B Rosters

The following updates were made to the site during 2008. Enjoy!

Date: Work Performed:
Dec. 23, 2008

Ken Lanovich has taken the time to verify the frame number off of Railpower RP20BD prototype RPRX 5400, which matches the number on the frame we'd been told was the donor for RP20BD prototype RPRX 5401. So I've switched the donor unit info for both units to correct that.

Dec. 20, 2008

I've added photos of Modesto & Empire Traction 2000 to its roster page. Also, I have photos of new NRE 3GS21B-DE MSC 0805 for Metropolitan Stevedore! Enjoy!

Dec. 8, 2008

Lawrence Campell, Jr. caught Modesto & Empire Traction 2000 and 2001 en route through Chesterton, IN on their way to Chicago, and sent us a great photo. It looks like they tried to shrink wrap them before they left Altoona, but the 2001 at least has unwrapped itself. I'm sure there are more photos to come of these unique looking units.

Dec. 7, 2008

We have new pages for two new gensets each from Railpower and NRE with this update. Modesto & Empire Traction RP20BD's MET 2000 and 2001 are former Railpower GG20B demos RPRX 2404 and 2401 respectively, and are in transit from TMS to Modesto, CA. And NRE Mt. Vernon has released 3GS21B's USAX 6502 and 6503 for the US Army at Fort Lewis, WA. I've also updated the page for Viterra 2010, which wasn't quite ready for prime time (translation: I didn't edit it before I posted it... Thanks Cor, for pointing that out.)

Nov. 28, 2008

Big news this update with the addition of new information regarding the Brandt Road-Rail genset entry, the prototype of which is nearing completion at the company's Regina, SK plant. I've also added new pages for Viterra 1GS7B VITX 2010, and updated the page for Bunge 8002, which is back at Dixmoor after demonstrating at a US Naval Base in IN.

Nov. 15, 2008

I've added new photos of the following units: UPY 2681, BNSF 1241, 1245, and 1247. Also, thanks to Railpower for providing the previous unit numbers for their new RP20CD's, UPY 894 and 895. I've built roster pages for both.

Oct. 16, 2008

Railpower announced today that they had secured an order for two RP20BD gensets to the Modesto & Empire Traction of Modesto, CA. The railroad demonstrated both RPRX 5400 and NREX 2007 earlier this year. Here's a link to Railpower's press release. Also, Brookville informs us that MNRR 401, their first production genset, is shipping to New York. A photo of the unit at interchange has been added to its page.

Oct. 12, 2008

Lots of updates and new photos added this time around, including: New photos for BNSF 3GS12B's 1251, 1262, 1264, 1276, 1281, and 1282. There's also build data for the 1264 now, and an interesting history note for UPY RP20BD 2678. I've also added new pages (at last) for BNSF 1278, 1279 and 1280. There's also an update on Bunge 1GS7B BNGX 8002, which is headed to Danville, IL. I've also added three additional units for Bunge North America to the 1GS7B rosters.

Oct. 2, 2008

I've only made some minor cosmetic changes to the individual builder pages this time around. Mainly trying to make them more navigable for the people who don't realize that the rosters are hiding at the bottom. I am also working on a some changes to the front page, but that's for another time.

Oct. 1, 2008

I've just made a quick modification to the page for NS 2121 to correct some of the data that was duplicated when I used the page from NS 2120 as a basis. Also, I have photos of the 2121 now, albeit before it was painted. I've also added updated demonstration info to the pages for NREX 2020, 2009 and BMEX 259.

Sept. 27, 2008

Following the RSI Exhibition there is a good deal of new information to add. First off, Progress formalized their genset offerings with PR22B PRLX 2008. Joe Ferguson passed along that there were a number of gensets in progress at Mayfield as well, and we have all the data on those on the Progress page. NRE unveiled the first of its single engine 1GS7B switcher rebuilds, Bunge 8002. I also have several more photos of new 3GS21B-DE NREX 2020. That unit has been leased to the Belt Railway of Chicago for demonstration. Also, Railpower announced that Union Pacific had purchased two additional RP20CD's. I don't have number information yet on those units, but am working on it. I also have added previous unit info for PHL 81 and builder's data for BNSF 1211. And finally, NRE Paducah released two more 3GS21B's for CSX, CSXT 1302 and 1303, a few days ago. Also, look for more changes in the BNSF 3GS21B roster, as I am adding some pages and photos that I am currently missing.

Sept. 9, 2008

There is quite a bit of new information added to the site to keep pace with recent developments. First, Pacific Harbor Line has added another 3GS21C to its roster. PHL 81 was spotted in transit to Long Beach in August. Not long after, BNSF 1211 emerged from CAD Rail in Lachine, Quebec as a Railpower RP14BD genset. This is the first of four genset units to be converted from Gen. I GG20B green goat hybrids for BNSF. A few days ago, a new NRE 3GS21B demonstrator was spotted. NREX 2020 was at UP's Dolton, IL yard along with Bunge 8002, the first single engine 1GS7B built by NRE. Both are likely headed to the RMA convention later on this month, as is PRLX 2008, a new genset from Progress that was spotted shrink-wrapped in KY late last month. And, as if that wasn't enough, we also have a great assortment of photos of RPRX 5407 and MPEX 244 demonstrating in Calgary, AB last month. Enjoy!

Aug. 25, 2008
UPY 2622 is in Denver, CO on display at the Democratic National Convention. I've added some photos of the unit on display to its roster page, along with the serial number and build date, which I gleaned off of the builder's decal while I was there. Enjoy!
Aug. 20, 2008
After two months, I have a pretty sizeable update this time, with more in the works. First up are new pages for new Railpower RP14BD's for Norfolk Southern - NS 2120 and 2121, as well as six axle RP20CD NS 3830 and NRE 3GS21C NS 3850. I'm also pleased to introduce Brookville's first twin-genset BL14CG, MNRR 401. A second unit, MNRR 402, should be out soon. There are also demonstration updates and some new photos for NREX 2007, RPRX 5400, RPRX 5407, BMEX 259 and MPEX 244.
June 8, 2008
In the very early hours of the morning, I was fortunate enough to catch the last three Union Pacific RP20CD's in Cheyenne, WY on their way to California at the tail end of the consist of the I-G2OA-6 (Global 2 to Oakland) intermodal train. While the train paused for a crew change, I managed to get shots of all three units, UPY 897, 898 and 899. Enjoy!
May 24, 2008
I got a big stack of photos of UPY 899 last night, which I have worked up and uploaded. Robert Souter has begun sharing his photos of NREX 2007 in demonstration service. The first two are of the 2GS14B demonstrator working on California Northern. Look for more of Robert's photos of the 2007 and RPRX 5400 in the coming months. Thanks also goes out to Joe Ferguson for getting the full background on PRSX 2005, which we didn't have correct info on before. And finally, we've got photos and/or new pages for new NRE deliveries BNSF 1281 and 1276. Phew! What a lot of work that was!
May 5, 2008
Happy Cinco de Mayo! Today I have added three new photos, including a very interesting side shot of RPRX 5407 which reveals some of the new features incorporated into Railpower's newest RP20BD demonstrator. Also, I have new photos of UPY 897 and 898 at Proviso. Still awaiting photos of 899, which arrived in Chicago yesterday morning. Enjoy!
May 3, 2008
I've added a pre-conversion photo of expected Progress genset fodder PRSX 2004 to its page courtesy of Adam Sullivan. Many thanks.
May 2, 2008
The final Railpower RP20CD, UPY 899, is en route to interchange with UP, so I have added its roster page with this update. There's also a wealth of new Progress genset info, including new pages for incomplete unit PRSX 2005, and expected genset converts 2004, 2006 and 2007. All four units moved to Mayfield, KY this week. I've also updated the pages of all of the various demonstrator units to show their recent demo activity. Enjoy!
April 24, 2008
Railpower has turned out two more six axle RP20CD's. UPY 897 and 898 were spotted rolling south through Smiths Falls, ON en-route to Chicago. They should be on UP by week's end. In celebration, I've added roster pages for both units, complete with photos by Bob Heathorn. Enjoy!
April 23, 2008
Plenty of new photos this week, including an R-end shot of PRSX 2002, and new shots and/or data for BNSF 1241, 1247, 1254, 1282, 1283, 1284, and 1289. I've also added new photos of SD40-2 ex-UPB 4298 prior to conversion as UPY 896, and a new photo of Railpower RP20BD demonstrator RPRX 5407, as well as new pages for recent NRE deliveries BNSF 1274, 1277, 1285 and 1288. Enjoy!
April 13, 2008
I've added new roster pages for some new NRE releases from Paducah, BNSF 1283 and 1284, along with photos added to the page for Progress 3-engine genset PRSX 2002. That unit was spotted in NC headed to the Aberdeen, Carolina & Western late last week.
April 1, 2008
Though I might have been able to come up with a clever April 1 joke (a story about a Railpower-GE merger came to mind) I have decided instead to dedicate my time to real updates. To that end, I offer additional data and/or photos for the UPY 2712, 2713, and BNSF 1272, and built a brand-new page for the freshly-delivered BNSF 1282, straight out of NRE Paducah. I've also added a page for BNSF 1290, which was delivered from Paducah in February.
March 29, 2008
I've updated the pages for NRE demonstrators 2007 and 2009 and Railpower demo RPRX 5400 with some of their recent demonstrations, and added several photos and information to the roster pages for Progress gensets PRSX 3802 and 2003. I've also added new photos of the BNSF 1243 and CSXT 1300 courtesy of Chuch Hinrichs.
March 27, 2008
I've updated some information for PRSX 3802 and 2003, both of which were seen moving through western KY recently apparently on their way to Mayfield, a new Progress facility. The 2003 was previously listed as unidentified.
March 25, 2008
Some pretty significant updates and enhancements to the site layout. First of all, I am happy to introduce new builder's pages for Progress Rail Services and Brandt Road Rail, both of which should be releasing Genset prototypes soon. Progress appears to have at least three units already in progress. It's also time to appeal to the industry to quit adding new builders, as I have run out of squares... I've also added a new photo to the page for BNSF 1252, and some additional information to the Brookville CoGen demonstrator page for BMEX 259.
March 17, 2008

Happy St. Patricks's Day! I've shuffled a few things around and been able to bring back all of the missing photos, as well as the print version of the rosters. And I've even added new photos of BNSF 1254 from Mark St. Aubin. B'gosh. Enjoy!.

March 16, 2008

Introducing BNSF 1292, the latest release from NRE's former VMV factory in Paducah, KY. I have photos of this unit courtesy of Mark R, along with additional photos of CSXT 1301, and pics of BNSF 1286 (ex-NREX 2013) by Ryan Kertis. Also we have a photo and sighting of Brookville's genset prototype, BMEX 259 in Sinnemehoning, PA (say that ten times fast!). NOTE: Because of space constraints again, some files are temporarily unavailable. Sorry. I'm looking at spreading assetts around a bit to help relieve that and hopefully will have solution later this evening.

March 15, 2008

Thanks to Mark St. Aubin for supplying photos of BNSF 1248 and 1258 working in Houston. I've also added a recent photo of BNSF 1244 by April Smith. Thanks a ton to all of you who have contributed photos to keep this effort going.

March 13, 2008

I've added photos and build data to the pages for CSXT 1300 and 1301, both of which have now left NRE's Paducah facility for assignments in the Detroit area. Also, the printable version of the rosters has been taken down again due to space constraints.

March 12, 2008

Pacific Harbor Lines' 33, 34 and 80 are on the move to California. Note that the second unit is number 34, not 32. Much to my surprise. I've added new photos of the units, and the first few of the new BNSF units, 1268, 1269, 1270, 1271, 1272, 1273, 1286 (which is ex-NREX 2013), 1287 and 1291. Enjoy!

March 5, 2008

What a great day today! Railpower's first RP20CD six axle genset, UPY 896, has been released and is on the move through Ontario today. Bob Heathorn was kind enough to supply us with the first photos of these new units!

In addition, I'm pleased to offer the first photos of MotivePower's MP21B genset prototype, MPEX 244. Enjoy.

March 2, 2008

We have new photos to add for the PHL 80 and 33, and updates to the pages for PHL 32, USAX 6500 and 6501. I've also added data the 3GS21B page for the new BNSF order, 1268-1292, to get ready for the addition of new pages. Finally, I've added a page for the new, as-yet unnumbered NS 3GS21C.

Feb. 23, 2008

Thanks to Ken Lanovich for the builder's plate info on NRE deomonstrator NREX 2013, which is destned to become BNSF 1286. The unit's roster page has been updated.

Feb. 20, 2008

Two major things have happened with this update. First, MotivePower's new MP21B demonstrator MPEX 244 has made an appearance in Boise. While I am still waiting for photos, I have added all the information I have to its new roster page. Also, I have added a roster page for the test bed unit that was briefly a genset in Boise.

The next big update I have made is the addition of an invisible hit counter to the front page so I can measure traffic onto the site. What this will mean to users who are questioning cookies is that one will suddenly appear where there hasn't been one before. Please be assured that this is not a malicious cookie, and is being used to help me gauge site traffic in anticipation of some coming changes. Thanks.

Feb. 14, 2008

More new photos. This round adds pics of BNSF 1223, 1232, 1266 and 1267, as well as NREX demo 2013 in all its primer glory. There's plenty more to come, as NRE is delivering the next round of BNSF units. I have photos of 1268 and 1273 already, and sightings up as high as 1290. Look for that on a day that I'm not supposed to be taking my sweetie out.

Jan. 29, 2008

I've updated the page for FWWR 2014, as it is apparent that the core unit, FWWR 1500, still exists and couldn't have been used. I've also added some photos of the 2013 and 2014.

Jan. 27, 2008

I've added a roster page and information for new NREX demonstrator 2013. This one may be another temporary like the 2011, which later became BNSF 1240.

Jan. 25, 2008

Thanks to Craig Walker, Robert Pierce, and others for several new photos on the site, including BNSF 1257, NREX 2007, 2009, UPY 2664, 2688, 2718, 2720, 2724, 2736, 2747 and 2752.

Jan. 23, 2008

Demonstration histories for the NRE demonstrator fleet, NREX 2007, 2008, 2009 and BNSF 1240 (which did a turn as NREX 2011) as well as Railpower's RP20BD demonstrator RPRX 5400.

Jan. 22, 2008

I've added some more BNSF pages, 1251-1267, which brings me up to date, at last! I've also added a photo of BNSF 1242 to its page courtesy of Michael Ellis. Start from the 3GS21B roster page. I've also updated all of the front page data on the roster page. Phew! I can't believe I am finally caught up.

Jan. 21, 2008

Thanks to Ken Larson for filling in some gaps in the photos on the site. He helped us out with photos of UPY 2723, 2725, 2726, 2727, 2744, 2746, 2756 and 2758. Enjoy!

Jan. 20, 2008

With the UPY roster pages completely up to date, I have turned my attention to generating pages for BNSF's fleet of 3GS21Bs. So far, I have created or updated the pages for BNSF 1220-1250. Start from the 3GS21B model page. There is still some info to be updated on that page, but all the links for those units now work.

Jan. 18, 2008

I've updated the missing data on the remaining 40 UPY 3GS21B pages. In addition, I've added a photo of DGNO 140 to its page, and updated the data for the 140 and 141. I also added a couple of photos of UPY 2005 working with Railpower Green Goat RPRX 2401.

Jan. 17, 2008

Data on the next 10 UPY 3GS21B pages has been updated, so I can say for sure that the UPY 2701-2720 are as accurate as my notes will allow. Also, I've added a painted photo and build data for USAX 6501, and another photo of PHL 80, both courtesy of Mark Mautner. Enjoy!

Jan. 15, 2008

I've added pages for Union Pacific's first two RP20CD six axle Railpower gensets, UPY 896 and 897, which are taking shape in CAD right now. There's also updated photos and a new page for RPRX 5407, a new RP20BD that was originally listed as RPRX 1700 on the green goat site, but was only a stripped frame. I've also made several updates to the pages for UPY 2701-2710, and am working on correcting some errors in the other pages for the units in that series. Start from the 3GS21B roster page. And finally, I've created an RP20CD roster page since the units are on their way.

Jan. 7, 2008

Happy New Year! I've finished out the UPY NRE 3GS21B roster pages, and updated the main roster for that model. By golly, I'm almost caught up! There are also a few new photos of PHL 80 and USAX 6500, and added a new roster page (with photo) of PHL 33.

For corrections, questions or to contribute photos, please e-mail me at: here. Thanks!
