REPORTING OF ACCIDENTS.

177. All accidents or obstructions must be promptly reported to the Chief nad District Officers concerned, an advice being sent by speaking instrument in the case of serious mishaps.

In case of personal injury, the names and addresses of witnesses must be obtained.

When an accident to a train, or an obstruction, or a failure of any part of the works affecting the safety of the line, occurs, the next station or signal box open on each side must be immediately communicated with by the most expeditious means to enable Drivers and Guards of approaching trains to be advised of the circumstances, and assistance to be obtained if nedssary. In addtion to advising the Chief and District Officers concerned, the Controller, and District Traffic Inspector must be immediately advised; also, if necessary, the Permanent-way Inspector, the locomotive depot where the breakdown vans for the district are kept, and the Signal and Teletraph Inspectors must be at once informed.

The stations where the startin gof other trains is liable to be affected by delay caused by the accident or obstruciton must be immediately advised.
