Irish Narrow Gauge - Passage |
contents |
Passage West, seaport and watering-place on the west shore of the Lee estuary, opposite Great Island, parishes of Marmullane and Monkstown (q.v.), South county Cork, Ireland, 7 miles east-south-east of Cork. The town comprises one principal street, extending along the shore for nearly a mile, with small streets and lanes diverging from it, to which there is a ferry to Queenstown, and the traffic during the summer months is very great. There are Catholic and Protestant churches and schools and a dispensary. The interesting character of the scenery, the varied and delightful views over the river and the islands, and its general salubrity, have combined to render Passage highly desirable as a place of permanent residence, and attractive during the summer for the fine air and sea-bathing.
