MODULES |
Modules for the Indy FREEMO conform to the emerging national standards developed through the collaborative efforts other clubs formed many years prior to Indy FREEMO. Indy FREEMO values the standards established by these clubs for the purpose of interchange ability.
The best part about these standards is that they really only focus on a couple of specific things, meant to make smooth transitions between various owners modules. The one thing Indy FREEMO has not yet established is a standard paint color for fascia boards or color and type of layout skirting. This group is new and the first few modules built will help establish this for the Indy FREEMO.
It should be noted that while some groups have club owned equipment, corner and/or loop modules, Indy FREEMO is starting out simply as an coordination body. All modules and equipment will be owned by individual members. This is why it is important to follow a well established standard. Using Digitrax DCC will solve any control problems through the very flexible LocoNet System.
When we do get together to setup, we will set up what we have available in the most operational friendly manner.
An excellent planning and construction guide developed by Northern California Freemo is available in .pdf by clicking here. It is a very complete document and if followed will result in some very excellent looking and interchangeable modules.
Legacy modules leftover from older DC "race track" type modular clubs are welcomed into Indy FREEMO as long as the owner of the module(s) is willing to construct a Free-mo compliant module to serve as a transition. There are some major differences. The most major difference is track track height. FREEMO modules are 10" higher than NMRA recommended practice for HO Trak modules. At this point, we are not sure how to handle this. We would like the opportunity to interchange with a race track type setup at various train shows. It is best to use these older modules as passing tracks or branch lines. Please note that Free-mo clubs desire a much more scale appearance than some of the older Legacy modules. Code 100 track laid on Legacy modules is okay, as long as it appears to be somewhat scale in appearance.
