(24K) My hosts in Ft. Collins, Christine and Clark.

(21K) Christine and I on the platform at Denver Union Depot.

(32K) Train #6 ready to depart Denver. Sure wish I had brought my tripod but I'm developing a pretty steady hand.

(37K) Gloomy weather didn't allow for decent photos until Galesberg, IL, one of my favorite stops to take photos. It's a service stop for the train and I could take my time.

(31K) A BN steamer at Galesberg.

(24K) Another angle of the BN steam locomotive from on board my train.

No photos of Chicago or surrounding areas were taken on this trip. See my Chicago trip photos from last year if you want to see photos of the Windy City.

(47K) This looks like it used to be a multi-platform station at Buffalo, NY.

(44K) A milepost sign looks like a headstone to a grave here!

(30K) All the comforts of a Viewliner Standard Bedroom at your fingertips including a fold-down sink and toilet.

(45K) After arriving in Albany-Rensselaer, NY, the engineer climbes down from engine #48 which coincidentally is our Amtrak train number! Too bad grey glary skies made photography difficult.

(47K) Eating in a Heritage Dining car brought back memories from when I was a boy riding my first train! Even the yellow window shades hadn't changed.

(41K) Exterior photo of my Viewliner Sleeping Car with my car attendant, Henry. He was extremely camera shy and said he didn't look good in pictures. I don't think he would have minded a candid shot without showing his face.

(42K) Very well designed Viewliner rooms have two windows providing maximum scenery viewing. Most car attendants draw the drapes at bedtime, but I prefer to sleep with them open and look out the window or up at the stars.

(47K) While running around on the platform shooting photos, I noticed our locomotives had been removed as well as the RoadRailers (darn, forgot to get a photo of them!). Here, dual-powered diesel-electric Genesis locomotive #707 is being attached to the train. Notice the baggage car #, 1-2-3-4. This same car will be on the Silver Star the following day.

(34K) Three cars...two...one...10 feet...five...that'll do!.

(50K) Does anybody know what this is? I only know it belongs to the Air Force because it says so on the sides!

(41K) When I caught a glimpse of these Amtrak locomotives while pulling into Albany, the first thing I had to do was to get close-up photos of them and that blue U.S.A.F. apparatus to the right.

(37K) I didn't find out what kind of locomotives these were until after I got home. These four Amtrak locomotives are ex-New Haven FL9 B-A1As that were re-built in 1979 and 1980. Source: Contemporary Diesel Spotter's Guide; 2nd Ed. p.269.

(35K) Here one can see all of these unique units.

(56K) With our new locomotive attached, we are ready to depart.
