Silver
MoPac Timetable #3 and TT #19 Map Revision
Recently we learned that not all timetables printed by the MPRR were
orange. Here's an excerpt from Mark Bess, one of the many former Missouri
Pacific employees who has generously contributed to this site.
"Just a quick note on timetable colors... I have a silver covered
#3 in my collection. I don't know the exact reason for it, maybe it
was a limited run for officials or whatever but nonetheless it's silver.
I acquired it from another employee in the MP headquarters building
back about 1980 or so."
By the way, if you look inside TT#19, you'll see a brand-new, cleaner
map in the center with "MAB" in the corner. That's me, Mark A. Bess.
I lobbied my boss at the time, Frank Persels, to let me draw up a
cleaner map than the much-revised Rand McNally we had been using.
I had been doing all of the timetable map revisions since about 1979...
The new original was ink on mylar, about 2' square. It took me about
three weeks of work to produce, if I remember correctly." |
