Texas Panhandle - UP Pratt Subdivision

Union Pacific's Pratt and Tucumcari Subdivisions cut across the extreme northwestern corner of the Panhandle between the Texas-Oklahoma and Texas-New Mexico state lines. The line crosses the BNSF Boise City Subdivision at Stratford, and crosses the BNSF Dalhart Subdivision in Dalhart. Trains swap crews at Dalhart, and many trains pick up and set out cars at the Dalhart yard. Traffic consists of coal, grain, manifest freight, and intermodal traffic. US Hwy 54 parallels the line for the entire stretch across the Panhandle, which includes the second-longest stretch of tangent (straight) track in the United States, from Dalhart to Guymon, OK (72 miles).
