LondonLinks bought a large batch of Citybuses to operate the 78 and 176 from Walworth. When Walworth closed route 78 was passed on elsewhere and the 176 was transferred to Norwood and the VE class was born. However they didn't last long and Northern Counties Olympians replaced them.
