- STAGE-1
- The west branch of the UPRR used to go thru what is now Shasta Lake,
created by the waters of the Pit, McCloud and Sacramento Rivers.
- Pre 1944, -the line is owned by Southern Pacific Railroad. The track heads
west out of Redding, along the Sacramento river. In 1944-1948 Shasta Dam was
built, so SPRR was rerouted north out of Redding, Calif.
Post 1948, -the line winds north from Redding to Moutain Gate.
- This area of the layout will be two distinct areas, one from the 1940's, the other after the 1940's.
- 1 - THE 1940'S ERA (Steam)
- 2 - Present Day (Amtrak)
- STAGE-2 The line leaves Mountain Gate and crosses Lake Shasta.
- STAGE-3 North of Lake Shasta to Castle Crags
- STAGE-4 From Castle Crags to Dunsmuir.
