My Cane and Walking stick Collection |

Bills' Hobbies ...somewhere on line...
Back in 1978, about spring time, I began what is my second oldest hobby. That of making and collecting canes and walking sticks. It was just after moving to a house in the country, at Murray Lake, to be exact, that the need for a cane or stick of some sort would be needed to enable me to take evening walks safely.
I don't mean because of a bad leg or other infirmity, but rather the neighbors dogs. They would sometimes come barking and snarling right out to the middle of the road where I was walking. The way I figured it, if they got too close, maybe a good hard rap on the noggin would discourage them. Never did get a chance to test the theory, though, they all stayed just out of reach.
I found that I liked using a cane for my evening strolls even when there were no dogs around, and soon I began making and collecting canes just for the fun of it. My collection now stands at 23 canes ready for use, 3 walking sticks ready to use, and about 6 canes, and 4 walking sticks waiting to be worked on. The pictures below show 16 of my canes. As I build more racks, and finish more items, more pictures will be available.
My oldest hobby is that of collecting cameras. That began back in '67, when I bought my first SLR, but that is another story...............
These cane racks are above doorways, the only way to show them off.
