So what have I been doing with my time? Here's a great way to find out. All of the recent changes, updates, modifications and additions are logged here. Thanks for looking, and taking the time to delve this far into the site.
Date: | Work Performed: |
Feb. 21, 2010 | I have finished the detail page for KCS de Mexico to the best of my ability with the information I have available at this time. From there, I decided to take a slightly different approach, and have rounded out the BNSF with page 2 covering NRE gensets 1220-1244, page 3 covering 1245-1269, and page 4 covering 1270-1292. As well, I have built UP page 7 with NRE gensets UPY 2701-2730 and page 8 with UPY 2731-2760. Data on the UP and BNSF pages is correct, but I have not yet added the notes and other details that come with it. That will be filled back in over the next few days. This leaves me in the satisfying position of having only a little over 100 locomotives left to add to the site before the overhaul can be deemed complete, and I can start focusing on new content. It's been a long haul, as we're fully six months into the process right now. But we're nearing the end, and I'm excited about the future prospects. I'm also pleased to say that with the addition of the ECO rebuilds and similar products from Progress, MPI and Brookville, we've already added 92 new locomotives to the ranks. Including new genset construction over the same period means that we've added nearly as many locomotives as we're missing right now. Thanks for sticking with me! And enjoy! |
Feb. 20, 2010 | Corrected the data on Nova Chem's 3GS21B on the NRE Misc. page. |
Feb. 19, 2010 | Another round of updates sees the addition of the owner's pages for Orange Port Terminal (Gulf Coast Rail Services) and the second Union Pacific page. Also, I've added photos of Odfjell 2GS14B 1400 to the NRE Misc. page, and updated the serial numbers on the SDIY gensets on the Rail America page. And a place-holder is now uploaded for KCS de Mexico, which should be completed by tomorrow. |
Feb. 18, 2010 | The NRE Miscellaneous has been completed and added to the site. In the next week or so, I am going to being the process of changing all of the old roster and model pages (from the previous version of the site) to redirects for the new site layout. |
Feb. 15, 2010 | The Railpower Miscellaneous Industrials & Shortlines owner's page is up and running now, and the NRE Miscellaneous page will follow shortly. In addition, I've updated the builder's pages for NRE, Railpower and EMD to reflect the new pages, and added the links to the All Owners site as well. |
Feb. 12, 2010 | Placeholders no longer! The first Union Pacific and BNSF detail pages are now finished up and running. Misc. pages for NRE and Railpower are up next. |
Feb. 11, 2010 | The Railpower owner's detail page is now complete and uploaded as well. Enjoy! |
Feb. 10, 2010 | The Kansas City Southern owner's detail page is complete and uploaded. The Railpower page should be done later on tonight or tomorrow. Enjoy! |
Feb. 9, 2010 | Green Rail News is now on Facebook! Please join us there for more up to date news postings, and don't forget to make us a Friend! I've also added a Facebook feed to the front page so you can see more of what's going on. Also, I've added place holder pages for the Union Pacific and BNSF detail rosters. Please note that these pages are under construction and incomplete. Also, though they have been uploaded to the site, the detail pages for Kansas City Southern and Railpower are not yet complete as well. Thanks! |
Feb. 2, 2010 | I've added photos of newly released 2GS14Bs CSXT 1318 and 1319 to the CSX owner's page, and put more pics of San Diego & Imperial Valley 3GS21B's SDIY 701 and 702 to the Rail America page. |
Jan. 30, 2010 | The first list of All Builders covered by this site (and then some) has been added and is now an active part of the site. As well, the list of All Owners has been added. A list of Potential Financing Sources is coming soon. |
Jan. 29, 2010 | I've made some pretty apparent changes to the front page of the site, and in the process tipped my hand on some of the changes that are coming to the site. One of the biggest changes (literally) is the shift from an overall width of 800 pixels for the content to a width of 900 pixels for everything. I've also added links to main pages for All Builders, and All Owners, on the site. Those pages aren't built yet, but are coming. This also represents the beginning of the phasing out of the Green Goats companion site, with all of the content moving over to this site in the coming months. There are also several other big changes coming soon. Stay tuned! |
Jan. 16, 2010 | With the holidays and the like, I've been really remiss about capturing the updates I've made to the site. While I missed my Jan. 1 goal for having the overhaul of the site completed, I have still been plugging away at the pages. Lately, I've added or updated owner's pages for the following railroads: CSX Transportation, Kansas City Southern (not quite complete yet), Norfolk Southern, Progress, Rail America and Railpower (also not quite finished) and the U.S. Army. Enjoy! |
Nov. 23, 2009 | An alert reader caught an error in the page formatting that was specific to users of Internet Explorer. I have updated all of the affected pages with proper coding, and you should notice a major change in the appearance of the pages that will make them more readable. Users of Opera, Firefox, Safari, etc. won't notice any changes, as you've been getting the good stuff all along. But for the rest of y'all, I've got you covered now! Also, in the last month I've added owner's pages for the following railroads: Amtrak & subsidiaries, Brookville, Bunge, Canadian Pacific, CSX, EMD, Metro North, NRE, Norfolk Int;l Terminals, Norfolk Southern, Pacific Harbor Line, Progress, Rail America and Railpower. I've also updated the U.S. Army page as well. Enjoy! |
Oct. 27, 2009 | Testing and redesign is complete, and the new versions of all of the builder's pages are now online and live, replacing the older formats. This means that the individual roster pages will no longer be directly accessible, but they will be left online for quite some time before they are replaced with markers re-directing users to the new versions of the pages. But, as with the earlier mention, the older formats will not be updated again. Railroad pages are coming online slowly but surely, and will be added until the project is completed. Enjoy the new look! |
Oct. 13, 2009 | I have decided on a format for the revised edition of the website, and am now working on getting the formats transferred over from the original version. This will be a tremendous amount of work over the coming months. What does this mean? For starters, it means that the site as it exists right now will not be updated again until the transition is completed. In the next week or so, the main Builder's Pages will be switched to the new format, and further updates will take place there. But no new individual unit roster pages will be created, as that portion of the site is being eliminated. Once the Builder's Pages have been completed, individual railroad pages will be created that contain the specific information for each locomotive. I am hoping to have all of those pages created, proofread, and online by the end of the year. |
Oct. 2, 2009 | Due to managability issues, some major changes are coming to the organization of this site. I've uploaded a couple of sneak-previews for the new single layer MotivePower page, and the front of the dual layer NRE page. the second layer of the NRE page will resemble the MPI page, but with the individual units broken out by railroad. Because of time and space constraints, the individual unit roster pages will be going away soon. Please take a moment to look these layouts over and send your suggestions to me via the e-mail address below. I will be taking comments for a few weeks and tweaking the appearances while I work on converting the rest of the data I have to the new layout. Thanks for your help! |
Aug. 26, 2009 | RPRX 5400, 2009, 5402. UPY 894, 895, 899. BMEX 259, MPEX 244, PRLX 2005, 2006, 2008. NREX 2020, 2014, 2015, USAX 6506, USAX 6502, 6503. UPY 2709, NREX 700, UPY 2005, |
May 17, 2009 | Thanks to Scott Thomas for proofreading out some errors in the pages for UPY 894 and 895, the two new Railpower RP20CD's. Also, he reminded me to add the two units to the RP20CD page, which I seem to have forgotten. Thanks also to Scott for the info that UPY 894 is now in Roseville with the other RP20CD's. And while we're heaping thanks on people, how about a nice thank you to Lester Zmudzinski for the photo of UPY 895. Enjoy! |
May 1, 2009 | As announced in a press release this afternoon, RJ Corman has purchased the majority of the assets of Railpower. RJC will purchase everything but the unfinished plant in Quebec, two road switchers (which hasn't been disclosed, but I'm guessing two of the unconverted geeps) and Railpower's cash on hand. RJC will in turn sell the RTG Cranes portion of the business and certain other assets to a group of Railpower managers, who have formed a new company called Management Newco. That company will also retain royalty-free license to the hybrid technology. It's not expected that this transaction will yield any benefit for the Ontario Teacher's Pension Plan or any other of Railpower's shareholders. The announcement is pending court approval in Canada and the US. |
April 28, 2009 | I've posted photos and roster data for new Progress genset demonstrators PRLX 2005 and PRLX 2006. The 2005 is currently testing on RJ Corman railroad along with RPRX 5407. Also new this update are pages for Rail America's first 3GS21B. CFNR 501 is nearly complete at Dixmoor and will be sent to the California Northern. I've also added photos and/or data for CSXT 1304, 1305, 1306, 1307 and 1310. The first four units are back at Dixmoor for modifications to allow them to run in the electrified territories in New York. And finally, I've added roster pages for Virginia International Terminals RP20BD's NITX 1706 and 1707. Those Railpower units are nearly complete at TMS in Altoona, PA. One change over the expected - NITX 1706 is originally RPRX 2405, while NITX 1707 is ex-RPRX 2403. This is reverse of what we were expecting. |
April 4, 2009 | After spotting some errors in the pages for MBTA 3248 and 3249, I have made some corrections. I've also added new builder's plate information as provided by Dave Santos. I've also updated the demonstration data for BNSF 1240, which did a few turns as NREX 2011 before it was released to BNSF. Enjoy! |
April 2, 2009 | I've finally got the photos up from my recent visit to Fort Lewis to view US Army 3GS21B's USAX 6502 and 6503. Pics have been posted to their roster pages. Enjoy! |
March 30, 2009 | I've added builder's plate data for three units that I collected from recently. First, US Army 3GS21B's USAX 6502 and 6503 from their assignment at Fort Lewis, WA. I also added builder's data for the NS 300 and 301, which I had collected previously and forgotten to add. Also, I have corrected the builder's data for Neptune Bulk Terminals 808 an 808A, which I had transcribed incorrectly. Photos of the 6502 and 6503 will follow tomorrow. And finally, I have corrected the build locations for the two new Railpower RP20CDs for Union Pacific, UPY 894 and 895. Those units were actually built at AMP in Danville, NY, not CAD Rail as previously reported. Also, they will be deployed initially in Fort Worth, not Roseville. |
March 18, 2009 | I've added a photo of Bunge 8004 by Joe Ferguson to that unit's roster page to go along with the data he provided earlier this week. |
March 16, 2009 | Thanks go out to John Scott for the fantastic night shot of CSXT 1304 that I have added to that unit's roster page. |
March 15, 2009 | Our eyes in Altoona, Tony Kimmel, sent us our first photo of RP20CD NS 3830 at TMS. I've also added a bunch of pages for new CSX units, including CSXT 1304, 1305, 1306, 1307, 1308, 1309, 1310 and 1311. I also have new photos for BNSF 1265 and 1238. Brookville Equipment was kind enough to send us photos of MNRR 402 for the page. Also, we have previous unit data for Bunge 8004, the last 1GS7B of that order. And another 1GS7B, NRE demonstrator NREX 700, has been spotted. We'll add a roster page when we get more information. And finally, I've added the hybrid Green Goats and Green Kids to the Railpower information page for reference purposes, with links to the Green Goats rosters. |
Feb. 25, 2009 | Bob Heathorn sent us photos of KCS 1401 in beautiful Retro Belle paint on its way south to the US. And we're finally getting around to posting them. I've got a pretty good sized backlog of work to do, so look for more updates in the coming weeks. |
Jan. 17, 2009 | I've added new photos of Bunge 8003 by our good friend Mark Mautner, along with pics and a new page for SEPTA 2GS14B-DE 70. I've also corrected the page for Neptune Bulk Terminal 808, which I had incorrectly referred to as having dynamic brakes. |
Jan. 13, 2009 | Thanks to Casey Thomason for our first photo of Norfolk Southern RP14BD 2121 painted and in service. I've added it to the top of that unit's roster page. And not to be outdone, we've gotten one from Tony Kimmel as well. Enjoy! |
Jan. 12, 2009 | There's been lots of activity as the year came to a close and the new year began, so I've been busy as well. Railpower has released two Kansas City Southern GG20B conversions from CADRail's shops in Lachine, Quebec. KCS 1400 is former KCS 1868, while KCS 1401 is ex-KCS 1869. Both units are now RP14BD twin-engine gensets. NRE has churned out several new gensets, including Neptune Bulk Terminals 3GS21B 808 and slug 808A, Bunge 1GS7B's 8001 and 8003, Mass. Bay Transit 3GS21B MBTA 3249, and new Canadian Pacific 3GS21B-DE's CP 2100 and 2101. There's lots of photos and roster data for these units. Enjoy! |
Dec. 23, 2008 | Ken Lanovich has taken the time to verify the frame number off of Railpower RP20BD prototype RPRX 5400, which matches the number on the frame we'd been told was the donor for RP20BD prototype RPRX 5401. So I've switched the donor unit info for both units to correct that. |
Dec. 20, 2008 | I've added photos of Modesto & Empire Traction 2000 to its roster page. Also, I have photos of new NRE 3GS21B-DE MSC 0805 for Metropolitan Stevedore! Enjoy! |
Dec. 8, 2008 | Lawrence Campell, Jr. caught Modesto & Empire Traction 2000 and 2001 en route through Chesterton, IN on their way to Chicago, and sent us a great photo. It looks like they tried to shrink wrap them before they left Altoona, but the 2001 at least has unwrapped itself. I'm sure there are more photos to come of these unique looking units. |
Dec. 7, 2008 | We have new pages for two new gensets each from Railpower and NRE with this update. Modesto & Empire Traction RP20BD's MET 2000 and 2001 are former Railpower GG20B demos RPRX 2404 and 2401 respectively, and are in transit from TMS to Modesto, CA. And NRE Mt. Vernon has released 3GS21B's USAX 6502 and 6503 for the US Army at Fort Lewis, WA. I've also updated the page for Viterra 2010, which wasn't quite ready for prime time (translation: I didn't edit it before I posted it... Thanks Cor, for pointing that out.) |
Nov. 28, 2008 | Big news this update with the addition of new information regarding the Brandt Road-Rail genset entry, the prototype of which is nearing completion at the company's Regina, SK plant. I've also added new pages for Viterra 1GS7B VITX 2010, and updated the page for Bunge 8002, which is back at Dixmoor after demonstrating at a US Naval Base in IN. |
For space reasons, I have archived the previous updates by date. For updates prior to the most recent ones, check there.
