So what have I been doing with my time? Here's a great way to find out. All of the recent changes, updates, modifications and additions are logged here. Thanks for looking, and taking the time to delve this far into the site.
Date: | Work Performed: |
Jan. 31, 2010 | IMPORTANT NOTICE! Please Read... As many of you have already seen, I began the process of changing the method of delivering data through this site's companion, the Genset Rosters website. At that time, all data from this site was assimilated by the Genset site. Effective yesterday, I have rolled out the new Green Locomotive News website in place of the Gensets site, and ALL WORK HAS STOPPED on this site. There will be no further updates to the rosters or to the individual pages via the site. All data will be maintained and updated on the new Green Locomotive News website, http://www.trainweb.org/gensets. I have to stress that I love this site like a pet, and it's not an easy decision to begin the process of shutting it down. But I think the end result will be far better than I ever imagined, and well worth the efforts. I want to thank all of my readers for indulging me through this labor of love over the years, and to extend my invitation to visit the consolidated Green Locomotive News site if you haven't already. Thanks! |
August 8, 2009 | After a lengthy hiatus, I am back with several updates. First, BNSF 1205, the fuel-cell hybrid locomotive beign built on the platform of former CP 1704, has been completed and is currently undergoing testing at TTCI in Pueblo. New Railpower owner RJ Corman Rail Group has been pulling locomotives into its facility in Lexington, KY for paint and other upgrades. The latest to be released is lease unit RPRX 1701, a former CP GG20B. It should be joined soon by RPRX 2406, formerly CP 1700. |
April 28, 2009 | Former Green Goat demonstrators RPRX 2403 and 2405 have been spotted again outside TMS in Altoona, PA. Their conversions to RP20BD gensets are nearly complete. One genset is already painted and marked NITX 1706, while the other is not yet painted and carries RPRX 2403's markings on the side of the cab. This means it's not the 1706 as originally indicated, and leads me to believe that the 2405 is the unit that became the 1706, while the 2403 will become the NITX 1707. Proper pages have been posted for both units on our genset rosters sister site. |
April 2, 2009 | US Army 6000 (GG20B) is still at Fort Lewis, WA as of March 30. I've added photos of the unit to its roster page, along with a news update indicating that the unit will be shipped to Hill AFB in Utah for rebuilding, possibly as a genset locomotive. For those interested, Fort Lewis recently recieved a pair of NRE 3GS21B's, USAX 6502 and 6503, which I also photographed. Those green units augment the pair of EMD GP10's that are also at the fort serving its various Stryker batallions. I saw USAX 1873 inside the shed during the March 30 visit. When I visited in 2005, the 1872 was there as well. I'm not sure if it's still the second GP10. |
March 14, 2009 | Former Railpower GG20B demonstrator RPRX 2402 is now the property of Railserve. It is registered in UMLER as RSSX 2402, and recently moved down to Railserve's facility in Longview, TX. John Briggs recently photographed the unit in Longview sans batteries, genset and hoods. He also sent us photos of RSSX 1810, which made me realize that I hadn't ever made a roster page for the unit. My bad! So I've remedied that oversight with this bright and shiny new roster page! I've also added photos of RSSX 4547 and 9140 courtesy of John Briggs. Enjoy! |
Jan. 18, 2009 | UPY 2306 and 2309 have been released from CAD Rail and moved back to Union Pacific in Chicago. I have updated their roster pages accordingly, but I don't have photos of either unit after conversion. Yet. Also, I have updated the pages for Railserve 414 and Railpower 2402 to reflect that these two units will be swapping ownership as part of a legal settlement between the two parties. |
Jan. 12, 2009 | Kansas City Southern's GG20B's have been rebuilt to RP14BD gensets, and renumbered KCS 1400 (former KCS 1868) and 1401 (former KCS 1869). So the units have been moved to the Genset Rosters Page, and their roster pages updated accordingly. |
Dec. 23, 2008 | Ken Lanovich has taken the time to verify the frame number off of Railpower RP20BD prototype RPRX 5400, which matches the number on the frame we'd been told was the donor for RP20BD prototype RPRX 5401. So I've switched the donor unit info for both units to correct that. Also, UPY 2300 and 2305 have been handed off to the Union Pacific, and UPY 2309 is now en route to Chicago. I have added new photos of the 2300 and 2305 to their roster pages. |
Dec. 1, 2008 | Thanks to Marc Chouinard, I have photos to show of UPY 2303 following its upgrades at CAD Rail to Gen. IV configuration. Also, UPY 2300 and 2305 are now billed for movement. |
Nov. 26, 2008 | UPY 2301 shipped from CAD this week after being upgraded to Gen. IV standards, and Bob Heathorn caught it in Smiths Falls, ON. I've added photos of the unit to its roster page. I understand that 2300 and 2303 are ready to move as well, meaning that the Gen. II to Gen. IV upgrade program is halfway complete. |
Oct. 31, 2008 | I have fresh photos to add of RSSX 106 headed in for rebuilt, and UPY 2304 headed out. Also, Gen. IV GG20B conversion UPY 2300 is reported to be ready to ship south from CAD in Lachine, Quebec as well. And as of the weekend of Oct. 18-19, RPRX 1705 has been delivered to the Virginia International Terminal in Norfolk, VA. |
Oct. 12, 2008 | Thanks to Paul Rome for the photo of RPRX 2406 (ex-Amtrak 599, nee CP 1700) in West Colton, CA. I've also added news updates to the pages for Railserve GG10B RSSX 106, which moved to Bodie, TX this month, and UPY 2304, which will be headed south soon from CADRail after upgrades to Gen. IV standards. |
Oct. 1, 2008 | Just a quick update. I've added two more photos of RPRX 2403 at TMS awaiting conversion to RP20BD genset to its roster page. |
Sept. 3, 2008 | With most all of the Gen. III GG20B's upgraded and back to work, Railpower has turned its attention to the Gen. I and Gen. II units. Several of the earliest units are seing conversion to RP20BD gensets, including original demonstrators RPRX 2401, 2402, 2403, 2404 and 2405, as well as UPY 2004. Those six Railpower-owned units were the first six production GG20B's built. They were moved to TMS in Altoona, PA in July and August. For the time being, those units will remain on this site. They will be moved to our sister Genset Rosters site once new numbers are determined and rebuild status is confirmed. Also, BNSF 1211 has just emerged from rebuild at CAD Rail in Lachine as an RP14BD twin-engine genset. That unit has been moved over to the Genset Rosters site. UPY 2302 was also released at the end of August, and remains a GG20B hybrid model, albeit a Gen. IV upgrade. I've added photos of that unit courtesy of Bob Heathorn. And finally, I've updated the records for RPRX 2406, which is the former AMTK 599 nee CP 1700, and RPRX 1705, which is headed to the Virginia International Terminal on a lease-buy agreement along with a pair of RP20BDs which will be determined later. |
April 23, 2008 | I have a fresh batch of photos of Railserve 414, 8049 and 9140 added to their respective pages. Expect some CP photos to come soon as well... |
March 10, 2008 | USAX 6004 is on its way from CAD to Fort Bliss near El Paso, TX. I've added photos and that data to its roster page. Also please note that all of the photos from the recent CRO visit to CADRail have been taken down at Railpower's request. |
Feb. 20, 2008 | In anticipation of some planned changes to all of my sites, I have added an invisible hit counter to the front page to allow me to track stats and traffic onto this and my other sites. You probably won't notice too much, but if you are tracking cookies, you may notice that the site suddenly asks for one where is hasn't before. Don't be alarmed. Nothing malicious here. Just keeping track of the traffic the site sees, which I haven't ever done before. |
Jan. 26, 2008 | Well, since I went to the trouble of mentioning that Kansas City Southern 1868 was stored in Port Arthur, TX, somebody had to go prove me wrong. The 1868 was spotted in a CN train heading east out of Toronto last Friday, presumably CAD-bound at last. They also sent a photo of the unit, which I have added to its page. |
Jan. 25, 2008 | I've added another photo of UPY 2315 to its page, and updated the information for Bechtel 2000, the GG20B at INEL in Scoville, ID. I also corrected a couple of contextual errors in the page for the 2319. |
Jan. 22, 2008 | I've added a photo of Kansas City Southern 1868 to its page, and updated its information to reflect that it is stored in Port Arthur, TX, not at CAD in Montreal as had been previously reported. |
Jan. 11, 2008 | Recently, Marc Chouinard and William H. Baird toured Canadian Allied Diesel. Click here to read their fill report. Included in that report are photos of USAX 6004 in new paint and a shot of BNSF 1211 being overhauled. Check out the genset rosters site for more results from the recent tour. |
Jan. 6, 2008 | Thanks to John Briggs for a photo of Railserve 414. Also, I've updated the previous unit info on RSSX 4547 and 8049, which were previously incorrect. I'm still searching for pre-conversion numbers of six Railserve units, including those two. |
Dec. 14, 2007 | I've added some more of Michael Ellis and Mike Murray's photos to the Railserve roster pages. All of the photos added in this round are pre-converions, including images of RSSX 103, 1621, 2524, 2605 and 4495. I've also changed the compiling of the print version of the complete roster to dramatically reduce the file size. Try 936 kb on for size instead of 2.8 megs. The print version of the genset rosters has also been squeezed down to 916 kb. A smaller version of the spotter's guide is coming soon. |
Nov. 28, 2007 | The one big hole on this site is in Railserve's roster of units, and I am working on getting that filled in. For starters today, I have added new pages for Railserve GG20B's RSSX 1621, 4547, 8049 and 9140. And I'm fortunate enough to have photos for two of the four, plus photos of RSSX 1602. I've also added MPI's new MP21B genset model to the Spotter's Guide. Enjoy. |
Aug. 17, 2007 | I added Brookville Equipment Co.'s CoGen line to the Spotter's Guide. Sorry, I left that one off on accident. |
Aug. 14, 2007 | I posted a pretty extensive update to the Spotter's Guide today, to mimic the overhaul the printed version recieved a month or two ago. |
Aug. 8, 2007 | I had the opportunity to catch up with two units recently. First, I ran into BNSF 1205 still in primer and not yet converted to fuel cell-hybrid. In addition, I had the opportunity to visit BP-Amoco 1703 in Cherry Point, WA. Unfortunately, it wasn't running because of the recall. But I have added photos of both, and some data to the 1703's page. |
June 10, 2007 | I've gotten caught up on some of the photos for this site, including photo and/or information updates to the following units: RPRX 1701, UPY 2300, KCS 1869, BNSF 1211, 1205, RPRX 2001, 2003, IDC 001 and Agrium 002. I've also added a page for fuelcell-hybrid RPRX 1700, even though its presently only a stripped down frame. |
June 8, 2007 | With the expanded focus of the sites on more than just Railpower locomotives, I have completely overhauled the print version of what was once the Railpower Locomotive Spotters Guide. It has now been transformed into The Low Emissions Locomotive Spotters Guide, which I am proud to present in .pdf format. Adobe Acrobat Reader, Apple Preview, or a similar reader is required. An update to the online version is forthcoming as well. |
May 23, 2007 | Today we celebrate the official launch of the Genset Locomotive Rosters, a companion site to the Green Goat Locomotive Rosters. If you've been following along, this has been a gradual transition over the past several months anyhow, but I am finally to the point with the new site that I am ready to take it live. Hope you like it. You'll notice some changes to the Features page on this site, including the addition of a print version of the Genset Rosters from our sister site, and some links to the other site, as, at least for the short while, both sites will be sharing the features page. |
May 11, 2007 | I've added several photos of the following locomotives: CP 1701, RPRX 1705, UPY 2300, 2313, 2314 and IDC 001. I've also changed the CP unit pages around to reflect their disposition, which was reported recently. CP 1700 as we already know is Amtrak 599. CP 1701 will become RPRX 1701. CP 1702 is headed to the US Army as their USAX 6004. CP 1703 has been sold to BP as their 1703. CP 1704 has become BNSF 1205, and may become the prototype for the fuelcell hybrid. And finally, as we know, CP 1705 didn't last very long before becoming RPRX 1705. I've also changed the format of the GG20B Roster Page to reflect the change, and to be in order of unit owner, not build date. Enjoy! |
May 2, 2007 | The PDF versions of the Hybrid Locomotive Rosters and Railpower Spotters Guide have been restored. Thanks for your patience while I worked through the space issues. |
April 10, 2007 | You'll notice some changes in the main menu as I transition into the new Genset Rosters site. The first effect that will have on this one is that the RP20BD model has disappeared from the main menu, replaced by the new Gensets site button, which will take you to the new site, which includes the RP20BD, and NRE's genset models. |
April 9, 2007 | I've made some minor graphics changes to the site's main page in preparation for the launch of the new genset locomotive sister site. More to come with that site's official launch, which should happen in the next week or so. |
March 21, 2007 | I made a minor correction to the roster page and info for RSSX 2524, which I had labeled as being former RESX (Rescar) 1621 instead of RSSX (Railserve) 1621. Thanks to Eric Augatis for pointing out the error. |
Feb. 2, 2007 | Happy Groundhog Day! It's like 20 below zero here this morning, so let's keep our fingers crossed for an early spring. I'm ready for it. In the mean time, Eric Aucoin sends us serial number data and photos of RP20BD demonstrators RPRX 5403 and 5405, and Mark Mautner adds his own photo of the 5405 in Chicago. Mark also caught a couple of NRE 3GS21Bs, but I haven't decided what to do with those photos yet. I'm weighing the idea of starting a Gensets roster website, or expanding this one. So please if you have any interest one way or the other, send me an e-mail and let me know what you think. |
Jan. 30, 2007 | Mike Murray sends us photos of the UPY 2607 in service, and John Kilmer adds photos of several units at Super Steel, including the UPY 2617, 2621, 2629, 2630, 2631 and 2632. However, we're short on memory again, so the print version of the roster and spotter's guide have been taken down for now. They're still available through the Green Goats discussion group on Yahoo. |
Jan. 29, 2007 | Chad Malinovsky had one more encore left in him, catching RPRX 5406 at Otis, IN yesterday. Many thanks to Chad, Eric and Bob for filling in the picture gaps in the new RP20BD demonstrator fleet. Only one unit remains unrecorded, and that's RPRX 5405. And only a week after they left the factory. Way to go, guys! |
Jan. 27, 2007 | Chad Malinovsky is at it again, catching new RPRX demonstrator 5403 in Indiana today. But he wasn't the first photo submitter today. Bob Heathorn sends us this shot of the 5406 in Smiths Falls, Ontario in the wee hours of the morning. I've also got another batch of Super Steel photos from John Kilmer, but those will have to wait until tomorrow. |
Jan. 26, 2007 | Sean Graham-White was kind enough to provide us with serial numbers for UPY 2615 and 2618, which are on their way south from Chicago today. I've also added two photos of RPRX 5402 on CP by Chad Malinovsky. |
Jan. 24, 2007 | I think I might be getting caught up again! The latest additions are several photos by Craig Walker and Matt Brown of UPY 2313 and 2314 in Anaheim. Also, an update that RPRX 5405, 5404 and 5403 are all on the road toward Chicago. 5405 is already in the US, south of Detroit, while 5405 is at Toronto. Enjoy! |
Jan. 23, 2007 | I've updated more of the UPY RP20BD locomotives. Check out the roster pages for Y2611-Y2630 for more photos, and histories for some of the units as well. (About half of these pages are all new.) Start from the RP20BD roster page. Also, I have added pre-conversion photos to the pages for RPRX 5402, 5403, 5405 and 5406. And finally, I have added several photos by Dave Toussaint of RPRX 2403 and 2404 working in Colton, CA, and a photo of UPY 2318 at Mira Loma. Enjoy. And I'm not even done yet! More to come tomorrow. |
Jan. 22, 2007 | Still working my way through the UPY 2602-series units update, so please bear with the broken links from the RP20BD roster page for a few days. In the mean time, here's an updated version of the Printable Rosters for your enjoyment. (Adobe Acrobat or similar PDF viewer required.) |
Jan. 21, 2007 | The big news here is the construction of new Railpower RP20BD demonstrators RPRX 5402, 5403, 5404, 5405 and 5406 from CAD Rail. 5402 is on the road already, on its way to BNSF in Chicago, with 5404 expected to follow soon if it hasn't already. I've also made numerous photo updates throughout, primarily the inclusion of photos and roster pages for a large number of UPY 2602-series RP20BD's. I have a large number of updates to make, and wasn't able to make them all today. But I did add some photos and unit histories to UPY 2602-2610, with more to come in the next few days. Check the RP20BD roster page to begin your tour. |
Jan. 8, 2007 | I've updated the print version of the Railpower Roster to include the most recent RP20BD units built for GE, and the printed version of the Spotter's Guide to include NRE's 3GS21B and 2GS14B models under the Not by Railpower section. And I have a tremendous backlog of photos to work through, so watch out! There's plenty more to come. |
Jan. 3, 2007 | I've added new photos of the following units: UPY 2312, 2314, 2605, 2609, 2313 and AMTK 599. The last two aren't particularly good photos - I took them out of a dirty Amtrak Surfliner window into a setting sun. But there they are. I've also expanded the Spotter's Guide to include NRE's Genset Units as part of the "Not Railpower Products" section. And finally, a news tidbit and a rumor. CP 1703 was spotted at Coquitlam, BC yesterday, and is reported to be en route to BP's refinery in Cherry Point, WA. Also a rumor that CP 1702 has been sold to Kansas City Southern. Still working to confirm that one. |
Dec. 17, 2006 | Part of the work updating the print roster revealed some research gaps on the site, which I have filled in by updating the previous unit histories for the following units: Union Pacific Y2004, Railserve 103, 106, 1602, 1621, 2524, 2605, 4487, 4489, 4495, and US Army 6001. Also, with photo confirmation, I have added Union Pacific Y2612 to the list of completed RP20BDs. The unit is on CSX in transit from Super Steel with Y2610. |
Dec. 15, 2006 | After a good deal of work, I have updated the print version of the Railpower Rosters, in PDF form. Warning: File size is 2.5 megs. |
Dec. 13, 2006 | Brian Frierdich sent us a photo of UPY 2608 in East St. Louis yesterday, and I have added it to the unit's roster page. I also have new photos of UPY 2319 from Richard Sugg and an update on the history of USAX 6002 courtesy of Bob Lehmuth. Enjoy. |
Dec. 12, 2006 | More upgrades to the site. I have restyled the roster pages slightly and am getting them ready for the final form. I'll miss the thumbnails, but they had to go. On the productive side, I have added pages for newly sighted RP20BD's UPY 2617, 2618 and 2619. |
Dec. 11, 2006 | The site is beginning to take on its new format, and while there is still work to be done, the front page shows some of the variations. The biggest addition is a new Online Spotters Guide. I've also updated the print version of the Spotter's Guide. |
Dec. 9, 2006 | Following up on yesterday's news, I have added a roster page for Railpower GG20B 1705, and updated the page for CP 1704 to reflect its existence. I've also added roster pages (rudimentary as they are) for RP20BD units UPY 2607, 2608, 2609, 2610 and 2615. |
Dec. 8, 2006 | Big news from up north, where my suspicions about the existence of CP 1704 was confirmed by this photo on mountainrailway.com of the undelivered unit sitting outside Alstom. Also, Wilco has a shot of undelivered CP 1705 as RPRX 1705 on the site. Looks like we'll get at least one more demonstrator. Wilco also reported that a partially assembled CP 1706 was disasembled and shipped east (presumably to CAD Rail) for completion, and that the frame for CP 1707 had been prepared. I don't know what its fate is. Also, from an e-mail, Chevron Chemical in El Segundo, CA has what they called a Railserve Green Kid, though they didn't know the number. Presumably, it's the previously speculated RSSX 106, which on paper was supposed to be a GK10B, but turned out to be the first of six GG10B instead. Also, I've added several units to the RP20BD roster page, including UPY 2605, 2608, 2609, 2610 and 2615. Roster pages will follow as quickly as I can get them together. As a note, with things moving as quickly as they are right now, I am going to have to rethink the overall presentation of the roster pages, as they are rapidly getting larger than I can manage in their present form. For now I am maintaining the status quo, but expect some changes on the horizon once I figure out what the heck they are going to be. Oh yeah, one more thing. After reading the recent Trains Magazine special issue "Locomotive", I have taken yet-to-be-delivered BNSF GG20B's 1214-1218 off of the GG20B roster page and handed them over to the Rumor Control department, as the issue claims they will end up as RP20BD units. |
Dec. 7, 2006 | Railpower has issued a press release stating that it has reached an agreement to terminate a major contract that was promising to be a real money loser. Though they didn't state who the contract was with, they gave enough clues — 35 locomotives total, with three units already delivered — to make it obvious that it was the stalled contract with Canadian Pacific. Under the terms of the agreement, Railpower will pay a lump sum back to CP, and CP will return its three already delivered switchers, CP 1701, 1702 and 1703. (A fourth unit, CP 1700, was returned in October and resold to Amtrak as their 599.) |
Nov. 28, 2006 | From the October, 2006 issue of Railfan and Railroad comes a tidbit about the order or possible order of an RP20BD by the North Shore Railroad for its Lycoming Valley Railroad in Williamsport, PA. The issue is a little contradictory, stating on one page that the railroad is seeking a grant for the unit, and on another page that it has been ordered. So, awaiting confirmation, I have placed the unit in the Rumor Control department. |
Nov. 27, 2006 | Union Pacific RP20BD UPY 2604 is finally on the map, so I have added a roster page for the unit. I have no record of this unit coming out of Super Steel, so I presume it's a CAD Rail product out of Lachine, QB. If anyone can confirm this, I would be appreciative. Speaking of Super Steel, Dean Splittgerber was kind enough to provide a photo of their latest, UPY 2613. Both units have been added to the RP20BD roster page. Thanks to David Curlee of Altamont Press fame for sending photos of UPY 2314 on a local in Anaheim, which I have added to its roster page. Also a note that Modoc Rail Academy GG20B 2608 is in Oregon today in transit to the school near Roseville, CA. The unit is traveling as RPRX 2608. I made an attempt to find it in Portland, OR before a flight today, but ran out of time and had to give up. Bummer. |
Nov. 25, 2006 | Thanks to Ken Larson for the phot of UPY 2315, which I posted today. Also, I have added two photos to the roster page for BNSF 1213. And of course, Wilco is becoming our official proof-reader (and it looks like I need one.) His eagle eyes caught errors for me to fix in the pages for CP 1703, CP 1704 (does this unit actually exist yet?), BNSF 1210 and UPY 2603. And, as if that wasn't enough, I also added photos to the roster pages for UPY 2317 and BNSF 1213. |
Nov. 21, 2006 | Thanks to reader Wilco van Schoonhoven for pointing out some bad links in the roster pages for UPY 2004 and RPRX 2403, both of which I have fixed. It's also an excellen time to introduce Wilco's website on the Canadian Pacific's mountian crossings of Rogers and Kicking Horse passes, some of the most beautiful rail lines I've ever seen. You can visit the site at http://www.mountainrailway.com/. I also added a roster page for UPY 2315, and another photo of the 2606 at Super Steel. |
Nov. 20, 2006 | Sean Graham-White provided a great photo of UPY 2314 today, which took a little bit of the sting off of missing the 2313 and 2314 in transit this morning across eastern Wyoming. I've added the photo to the 2314's roster page, and updated the GG20B rosters as well. And while I was messing around, I took care of getting UPY 2315 into the active list, though I have yet to generate a roster page for it. |
Nov. 19, 2006 | Thanks to Robert Ulberg for an extra photo of UPY 2319, which I have added to its roster page. (Granted, he sent it to me a month ago, but we won't talk about that...) I also corrected a minor error in the roster page for UPY 2602, which is back at Super Steel, not en-route to San Antonio. I also added history information for UPY 2606, which was built using a former BN B30-7AB. Also, the print versions of the Railpower Roster and Railpower Spotter's Guide have been updated. |
Nov. 18, 2006 | I'm playing catch-up a bit after making so many sweeping changes early last month. Among other things, I have added photos of Modoc Rail Academy 2608 to its roster page, and updated the destination for Lubrizoil 2006 to reflect its service in Deer Park, TX. I also added roster pages for Union Pacific RP20BD locomotives UPY 2605 and 2606, and corrected errors on the pages for UPY 2602 and 2603. |
Nov. 2, 2006 | For everyone's amusement, I have added a completely terrible photo of UPY 2312 to its roster page. I can make fun of the pic all I want because I took it, at about 12:30 in the morning, illuminated only by the headlights on my car. So enjoy it. I did - it was my first GG sighting in over six months. |
Oct. 30, 2006 | After careful consideration and plenty of research, I have decided that the information regarding Amtrak 599 being former CP 1700 is accurate, and have changed the roster pages accordingly. For the record, CP 1700 hasn't been sighted in Calgary recently, though the 1701-1703 are all hard at work. Word is we can expect another CP 1700 in the future. I have also added a few more photos of the 599 to its roster page. |
Oct. 16, 2006 | One from the "Duh, Me" files. Thanks to an alert reader for pointing out that my entry for RP20BD demonstrator RPRX 5400 was labeled as being a former CP unit, not CN. The 5400's roster page was correct, but I can't read my own stuff long enough to get it onto the main page... OK, it's fixed now. |
Oct. 13, 2006 | Additional fact updates to BNSF 1210, 1211, 1212, 1213, LZRX 2006, and UPY 2004. Also news that UPY 2602 is presently running around on the New York, Susquehanna and Western with RPRX stencils, and is reputedly on lease to the NYSW. |
Oct. 10, 2006 | The updates keep coming. After dedicating my entire weekend to the "Great Update", I still had a few things that I wanted to clarify. First and foremost comes the news of the sighting of Amtrak 599 in Calgary. The unit may be the former CP 1700, but I haven't confirmed that yet. I've also added a roster page and photo for UPY 2319, which hit the US/Canada border on Saturday. The GG20B roster page has been updated to reflect both units. I've also added two photos of UPY 2313 by Ken Larson, and a photo of UPY 2602 in transit on NS with RPRX markings. I've also added or enhanced the previous unit histories for the following units: UPY 2305, 2306, 2307, 2308, 2309, RPRX 2401, 2402, 2403, UPY 2004, CP 1700, 1701, 1702, 1703 and 1704. |
Oct. 8, 2006 | Probably the largest single update since this site officially came online. We'll start with major information clarifications and upgrades to the following units: RPRX 2401, 2402, 2403, 2404, 2405, UPY 2004, USAX 6003, BNSF 1210, 1211, 1212, 1213, UPY 2300, 2305, 2306, 2307, 2308, 2309, 2310, 2314, 2317, LZRX 2006, RSSX 2524, 4487, 4489, KCS 1868, 1869, and CP 1700. Look for lots of original unit and build date data in all of those updates. There were also changes made to the GG10B and GG20B rosters, and a major update made to the print version of the Railpower Locomotive Rosters. And finally, I have upgraded the Owner's Roster and the Complete Production Roster, eliminating the thumbnails to make the pages load faster. Enjoy it all. |
Oct. 5, 2006 | Robert Ulberg comes through again with photos of UPY 2318 in Albina, OR. I've also added new photos of the RPRX 2401 in Fort Worth, and RPRX 2402 en-route to Texas. And finally, a long-overdue update to the print version of the Railpower Locomotive Rosters is online. Enjoy. |
Oct. 3, 2006 | They're Back! Trainweb responded to my request for more space (as they always do, bless their hearts) and I have room for the Railpower Locomotive Spotter's Guide and the print version of the Railpower Locomotive Rosters. I also added updated photos of Lubrizoil 2006 to the roster page and the main GG20B roster page. Enjoy! |
Oct. 2, 2006 | A big flurry of deliveries since my last update have necessitated a big flurry of updates to the site. Let's begin with new roster pages for recent GG20B deliveries UPY 2312 and 2313, as well as 2314, which entered the US a few days ago. Then there is also UPY 2318, a Calgary product that is testing in Oregon now. But I've saved the best for last: Recent sightings from Super Steel include a couple of gems - RP20BD's UPY 2602 and 2603. And of course, the roster pages for the GG20B and RP20BD models have been updated as well. In addition, I have added more of the previous unit numbers to the front page of the GG20B Roster page. |
Sept. 20, 2006 | Thanks to Bob Lehmuth, I have added a photo of USAX 6002, which I previously hadn't gotten any pics of. At the same time, I also came up with a photo of the unit from Railpower, but Bob's is a bit better, so we're leading with that one to be sure. Also reports from Canada that UP 2319 was sighted outside the Calgary shops, and that CP 1704 ought to be nearing completion if it's not already delivered. Both units have been added to the GG20B roster page, along with UPY 2312 and 2313. |
Sept. 12, 2006 | Union Pacific's two newest GG20B's - UPY 2312 and 2313 - showed up in Proviso Yard over the weekend, dispelling rumors that the 2312-2315 were going to be RP20BD instead of GG20B. I am waiting for photos and confirmation of the original unit numbers, but the model is pretty reliably confirmed. I have taken the 2312-2313 off of the Rumors page, and installed them into the GG20B Rosters page, but I haven't completed individual roster pages for them yet. |
Sept. 7, 2006 | Dean Splittgerber continues to be our eyes on Super Steel, and he proved it again today by sending me several photos, including updated photos of Modoc Rail Academy 2608 and RP20BH demonstrator 5401. But the real gem of the group has to be the shot of a unit numbered 2602. This primered unit appears to be an RP20BD, but is missing the large grates and radiator (?) at the rear of the hood. I am jumping to conclusions that this unit is probably one of the upcoming Union Pacific units. Time will tell whether or not I am on target. |
Aug. 30, 2006 | Made several updates today, including adding the previous unit numbers to the GK10B roster page, and the GG10B roster page, and also updated build date information for Agrium 002 and Railpower 2003. Also, in deference to the whole debate over Railserve's well-concealed fleet, I have moved RSSX 2524 from the GG20B class to the GG10B class. This is unconfirmed, as I have been supplied information both ways. But I have been told by more sources that it's a GG10B, so that's where it is for now. Until I can get postivie confirmation one way or the other. That's the deal with the entire Railserve fleet, much to my dismay. |
Aug. 28, 2006 | Added updated roster info (including previous unit numbers) to Modoc Rail Academy 2608, Railpower 5401, and Lubrizoil 2006. Note that this last unit was previously listed as Railpower 2006, but I have confirmed otherwise from Railpower. As such, the Lubrizoil unit has been removed from rumor control. |
Aug. 23, 2006 | Modoc Rail Academy's new unit is the 2608, not 2006 as previously mentioned. When it was photographed last month, it had the wrong number boards in the front. I have changed the unit's roster page accordingly. The unit will ship as RPRX 2608. I was also told by Modoc Rail that they have an option on a second unit in 2007. |
Aug. 21, 2006 | Many thanks to Dean Splittgerber for all of his help from Glenville. With his assistance, I have added several more photos to the roster page for RPRX 5401, the new RP20BH prototype. I have again exceeded the room allocated to me by Trainweb. I have applied for more, but the until I hear back from them, the PDF versions of the roster and spotter's guide will not be available. You may get them by joining the Green Goats Yahoo discussion group. Thanks for your patience. |
Aug. 18, 2006 | As proof of my literacy in the "I can read a photo" department, I am pleased to introduce to you GG20B RPRX 2006. I knew nothing about this little gem before it was spotted outside Super Steel a few days ago. How nice is it to have eyes over there? Thanks, guys. I'll try to learn a little more about this little beastie. UPDATE: Later in the day I added a photo and roster page for RPRX 5401, the new RP20BH prototype. Thanks to Dean Splittgerber, my eyes in Glenville. |
Aug. 16, 2006 | Thanks to Ryan Wilkerson and others I have a photo of the blue card in the UPY 2316, which provides a wealth of info including the previous unit number. Whoo-hoo! That info has been added to the roster page. Later in the day, I also posted updated original unit backgrounds for UPY 2303 and UPY 2304. Also started adding previous unit numbers and models to the main GG20B roster page. |
Aug. 15, 2006 | Thanks to Robert Ulberg, my official Eyes in Portland, I have photos of the recently-departed UPY 2316 working in Barnes Yard. |
Aug. 13, 2006 | Added additional photos to the pages for RPRX 2000 and USAX 6003 courtesy of Robert Dennis. Also moved the two FWWR GG20B units from the GG20B roster over to Rumor Control on reports that the order had been withdrawn. Rumor Control also received UPY 2312-2315, on rumors that they would be built as RP20BD units with their actual numbers unknown. Also added info to UPY 2300 and KCS 1869 reporting that they were both headed to CAD Rail for repairs earlier this year, and to RPRX 2402 reporting that it was headed to Texas in late July, 2006. |
Aug. 11, 2006 | Added original build dates for CP 1700 and 1701. Duh me. I'd put them on the roster summary, but not on the roster pages. Also added original unit numbers for UPY 2303 and UPY 2304. More to come. |
July 24, 2006 | Added another photo to the roster page for RPRX 5400 (RP20BD demo unit), and the previously promised roster pages for RPRX 2000, USAX 6003 and MRA 2006. Also removed the 2000 from the Rumor Control Page, as I think we will all agree that it exists now. |
July 23, 2006 | Added three units to the GG20B roster: RPRX 2000 (headed to Bechtel, INEL, Idaho from Super Steel), US Army 6003 (from Super Steel) and Modoc Rail Academy 2006 (headed to the school near Sacramento). Roster pages will follow for all three units shortly. |
July 19, 2006 | Norfolk Southern has ordered two RP20BD kits for assembly at Thoroughbred Rail Services, according to a press release issued by Railpower today. As such, I have added these units as confirmed units on the RP20BD roster. |
July 18, 2006 | Added the previous unit history to UPY 2311's page. Many thanks to the guy who sent me a photo of the FRA blue card! Also added a photo of the unit as UP 7781 to its page. |
July 17, 2006 | Added a photo of UPY 2311 and updated the pages for UPY 2310 and 2311 to reflect their assignment to Mira Loma, CA. |
July 16, 2006 | Created the Features Page and filled it in, and also created the Rumors Page and filled it in. Biggest updates, though, are the addition of the PDF versions of the Roster and the new Railpower Spotter's Guide. |
July 15, 2006 | Added extensive history to Railserve Inc. GK10B RSSX 356. |
July 12, 2006 | Added unit histories, more photos, and updated pages for UPY 2300, 2301 and 2302, and updated the pages for UPY 2310, 2311, 2316 and 2317. Also added another photo to UPY 2317 |
July 11, 2006 | Updated the Full Roster Sorted by Model and Full Roster Sorted by Owner to reflect new info on UPY units. |
July 10, 2006 | Compiled the Full Roster Sorted by Model and Full Roster Sorted by Owner for the first time and posted them. |
July 8, 2006 | Added several photos to USAX 6000. |
July 8, 2006 | First started getting serious about keeping track of this stuff. |
