Amtrak train 19, the Southbound Cresent, Crosses the Black Warrior River south of Tuscaloosa. This bridge is nearly 100 years old, I asked a MoW worker once, and he read a the date off the bridge's east/north side that said either 1904 or 1906). The center section lifts up for large boats. A NS Bridge Operator is always in the small building at the top of the right-side tower.

A Genesis unit is covered in snow. This photo was taken over Christmas Break ('97) in Tuscaloosa, Al. Look long and hard--it doesn't snow in Tuscaloosa very often...

The Cresent pulls into the Tuscaloosa Amtrak station. In the distance, the I-359 bridge is visible. The Chevy Blazer on the right is Jeff "the Axe Murderer" Robertson's. If Jeff ever gets a railsite back up, I'll link to it here and in my links page.

The Northbound Cresent, number 20, passes the NS/KCS interlock in Tuscaloosa. NS employees were grinding the diamond. The cars on the far left are on a NS/KCS interchange track, switched roughly-daily.

This dinning car used to run on the Sunset Limited, but was on the Cresent the day the photo was taken.

Amtrak 19's conductor and another crew member cut out the brakes on a car whose brakes were not operating correctly.

Amtrak #19 approaches the station in Tuscaloosa. Visible in the background are not one, but two Sperry Rail Service inspection cars. Notice also the people on the sidewalk across the street. This is where #19 is usually boarded (the train blocks both Greensboro Ave and Hargrove Rd while stopped at the station).

Here Amtrak 19 comes across Hackberry Lane, near the University of Alabama. To the left of the picture you will notice a tree line and some red metal posts and white of buildings. Between the trees and the posts/buildings is the KCS rail line that runs between the KCS yard in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. The red/white buildings are atheletic facilities of the Universities.

Northbound Amtrak #20 has just left the station in Tuscaloosa and is proceeding under 15th Street. The train is on the mainline.

Here Amtrak #20 is approaching the Interlock. In the background is Delphi Automotive, and to the right of the picture is Tamko Roofing Products. Delphi has a siding, but I have NEVER seen it used, Tamko is switched once or sometimes twice daily, 5 times a week. The piles of ties and rail in the picture are not normally there--it just happened to be there when I took this picture.
