A Kansas City Southern intermodal train seen on NS tracks south of Tuscaloosa.
KCS has haulage agreements with NS and runs 4 or 6 trains a day over the NS main in Tuscaloosa. Two trains are intermodal, two are mixed freight. KCS motive power is usually used (sometimes there is also NS and occational CN and lease units) and NS crews run the train. I don't remember the train numbers right now...-dk.

Four KCS locomotives seen east of the KCS/NS Interlock. Yes, the Green, Burlington Northern looking locomotive is a KCS locomotive. It was under long term lease to BN, and only recently returned to KCS. At least two green KCS locomotives have been through Tuscaloosa. The locomotives have since been repainted.
The Interlock is located in Tuscaloosa, just west of the NS/Amtrak station and south of the KCS yard. KCS uses its line over the interlock to service the NS/KCS interchange tracks in town and to serve Tuscaloosa Warehouse in the south-east of town (this track dead-ends there). KCS's yard and main track are to the left of the photo (about 1/4 mile). This line formerly ran to Montgomery, but was taken up years back by ICG.

A single KCS locomotive finishes up switching Tuscaloosa Warehouse. This track is the one that crosses the interlock. It is abandon only a few hundred feet to the south; it formerly went to Montgomery.

The same locomotive only moments before adjusting the placement of a loaded car.

A pair of former MidSouth (now part of KCS) locomotives. These are GP-10's, rebuilt from GP-9's. These locomotives have seen more time working for KCS than MidSouth. This was taken in the east end of the KCS yard. Note the switchman on the front.

Here a KCS train can be seen from the 7th Street bridge. There are bridges at 6th, 7th, and 9th Streets (9th is aka Stillman Blvd). There was a bridge at 8th Street, but it was burned by an arsonist in 1999 and KCS has recently removed the chared remains. The city has also erected baracades... I do not know if the bridge will be rebuilt, but doubt that it will. I believe this photo was taken by Courtney Oliver, a friend of mine.

A different photo of the same train from the same location. I think I took this one. One of the City of Tuscaloosa's water towers is visible in the background. Most watertowers in town are painted to say "Roll Tide" and in University of Alabama colors.

Here a KCS train is parked while the crew went to lunch. This train is parked in Holt on the Warrior Branch (serving Empire Coke, Tuscaloosa Steel, and others). Photo by Nova.

Another angle on the same train. It is a GP-10.
