Underground Steam

Steam was a means of motive power on parts of London Underground for many years, and the following are examples of locomotives used on the system.

Although steam was also used on the other, what have become known as, 'sub-surface' lines - those constructed using the 'cut and cover' method - the Metropolitan Railway (later line) is probably that most associated with it.

These photos illustrate examples of their steam locomotives.
