Hints, Tips & Tricks by Dan Anderson
  S-Scale by Craig O'Connell
Shown below are partial layouts I have designed with RR-Track's Model Railroad Software Demo's.
Area Modeled
Demo Track Plan

In this website, I will be building an HO Scale model railroad layout. First I will make a design (see stages 1-4) for an area to model.
I live in the Redding,Cal. area and the UPRR railroad winds up through Northern California (Union Pacific For the Webmaster at UPRR.)
STAGE-1 Redding to Mountain Gate (& Pre-1944 track)
STAGE-2 Mountain Gate to Lakehead
STAGE-3 North of Lake Shasta to Castle Crags
STAGE-4 From Castle Crags to Dunsmuir.

I have used maps to choose the layout area to model. More detail as I get to it.

Hints & Tips.#1

I used to use Hydrocal Grade-B. Not so cheap and comes in 78 lb. sacks.
Also there is Plastic Cement, which comes in 35 lb. sacks.
Regardless which kind of plaster/cement you use all tips remain the same. just allow for the various drying times for each that you use.

Preparations. What you need: Cardboard, Wood, used window screens, scissors, tape, nails hammer.etc.

I would mix a few cups of cement and when just right [paper towels soaked with the mixture do not fall apart in your hands] take the soaked paper towels and lay them on the cutouts.
The kind of poster paint which is a powder, mix in flour sifter (buy your own) until mixed almost throughly. You do not want the color to be consistant. Spray water on cement that is still slightly wet, sift colored cement powder over wet cemenmt, sparingly.
Hint #2
Use the flour sifter with the Poster Paint and a little plaster,
Spray a boxcar, and very lightly, sprinkle some paint/plaster mixture on the car.
When it dries, it should very look OLD.....and very DIRTY....keep the mixture off the trucks and wheels.
